Extreme Right-Wing Websites (like cnsnews.com)

In a recent thread discussing the terrifying liberal plot of using Sesame Street to usher in a Marxist America, the OP provided a link to a website called cnsnews.com.

I have to say, reading that site was a real eye-opener. I have several thoughts after reading some of the articles and, even more significantly, the comments provided by their readers.

1) Some of our more extreme right-wingers here on JREF are not just trolls. They actually believe this stuff. They have peers who believe this stuff. Much of what was written on that website sounded EXACTLY like what gets posted here.

2) I think that these sites and other specifically right-wing media create a vacuum...A world where certain 'truths' are accepted. It would be rather difficult to hold some of these views if you are engaged with the larger world on a regular basis. After reading this stuff, you can really see where some of the JREF posters get their ideas.

3) I found some of the comments quite disturbing. Now, I realize with millions of being able to post on the web you will inevitably encounter something grotesque. But, the frequency of these comments was very high. Also, it is not so much the original comment but all of the 'LIKES' that are disturbing. No matter how racist, nonsensical, homophobic, paranoid, or conspiratorial the comment, at least 8 people will say 'Hey, I really LIKE that!'.

4) While it is certainly true that accusations of racism often get thrown at conservatives in a cheap and undeserved way, the folks posting at cnsnews.com don't help their case. There were some racist comments there, some subtle and some quite blatant (with several 'LIKES' attached of course...) Some of these people are the same ones who HATE being called racists.

5) Everything, and I mean everything, can somehow be linked to Obama, atheism, liberalism, or socialism. No matter how unrelated. The Black Death? Socialism. The Holocaust? Atheism. No story, no how matter banal, lacks some connection to this vast left-wing conspiracy.

I feel compelled to mention that this website does not represent mainstream conservatism and the views expressed on cnsnews.com would seem grotesque to most Republicans....

The worldview of these sites is quite strange:

a.I mean, these people REALLY BELIEVE there is a vast socialist plot to take over the country.

b. They REALLY BELIEVE that many or most black people are just lazy or addicted to drugs.

c. They REALLY BELIEVE that Christians and Christianity are under attack. (Despite being by far the majority religion in America and being firmly entrenched in American society.)

d. They REALLY BELIEVE that public schools really only exist to teach kids how to put on condoms and that homosexuality is great.

e. They REALLY BELIEVE that anyone who does not agree with them is not just of a different political mindset, but is actually an enemy of America.

f.They REALLY BELIEVE that there is a conspiracy to institute sharia (which somehow accompanies a conspiracy to institute Stalinism...)

g. They REALLY BELIEVE that Obama and company wants nohting more than to take money from hard-working, patriotic, freedom-loving, Christian, white people, and give it to crack-addicted black welfare mothers with 18 kids.

h. They REALLY BELIEVE that Obama is a secret Muslim (still).

i. They REALLY BELIEVE that Obama is not an American citizen (still).

As a former conservative I have to say that I recognize myself in much of that.

Republican leaning posters on this forum are living in a dream land of 40 years ago. The current Republican party has disenfranchised social moderate and science oriented Republicans. Robert Prey is extreme, but he's closer to the center of the Republican base then most everyone else here.

That's one mightly over-broad brush there. The Republican leaning posters here run the gamut. It wouldn't be right to smear them with cites like the on in the OP. There are reasonable Republicans, and a recent thread of a similar name.

Evidence? That is to say, links?

There are reasonable Republicans ...

Yes, there are.

But that doesn't mean that there aren't a great number of unreasonable people out there as well ... and that some sites cater to and reinforce those points of view. Regardless of political leaning we need to call out irrationality when and where we find it.

This isn't a right vs. left thing. This is rationality vs. irrationality.

It's in the thread title. Be warned, it is a disturbing place.

Okay, let me make it easy for you. Point out to me the proof of either of these claims:

b. They REALLY BELIEVE that many or most black people are just lazy or addicted to drugs.

d. They REALLY BELIEVE that public schools really only exist to teach kids how to put on condoms and that homosexuality is great.

I hope you won't find that too disturbing.

Well, by definition, extremists hold extreme views.

I'm sure if we were to go to a left wing extremist site we would find that the government is in the thrall of big business and are in the process of selling our basic human rights to a new generation of cigar-smoking robber barons.

Your example of forum member and poster Robert Prey as a typical centrist Republican probably is not accurate. From what I have seen of his posts he seems to be more of a Ron Paul Republican than anything else.

It is my understanding that we are not supposed to copy and paste large chunks of material, so I hope this is not overdoing it. I spent a couple hours finding some examples. I made it to page 36 in the comments section (of the Sesame Street 'free lunch' article).

All of the beliefs I noted were pretty straight-forward paraphrases of comments.

-Let the lazy, worthless ******* starve! (racist slur removed by auto-censore...'n-word')

-"Negro economics"

- I know this scandalous ass black lady she knows all the freebie programs. So she works the system. And says why should I get a job when I can have all these programs. She's proud to be low income b/c she's a lazy ass black n#gge?.

- He is just telling the truth, the system is flawed and people of color are lazy.

- Learnin' be actin' White. Homies don't be dat. Homies feast on liberal guilt and dat be enuf.

- At least they made her black as they are most of the ones that are sucking our coffers dry.

-What really ingratiated me though was the portrayal of Blacks as being wise, noble and caring while Whites were stupid, bumbling, dark and sinister. Need I say more?

-I bet no white kids get these free meals.

-...Friday and Saturday nights are spent in The Club. People in "true" poverty in 3rd world countries, marvel at how our poor have everything they would desire. (and p.s. EVERYONE knows Food Stamps can be traded outside ANY hood grocery store for 50 cents on the dollar. Now you can buy cigarettes, liquor,...and even a hooker...with your food stamp money. Guess who pays for all this luxury?

- In other countries, if you do not work, you do not eat. But our society breeds parasites who would rather have babies who they cannot feed and sponge off the working people. You want me to pay to feed your ass, sew that vagina up or get sterilized.,, Not to mention, your notice how the muppet has dread lotts (I assume this poster means ‘dreadlocks’)

-When do we get to see the debut of Lily's mom - the lazy crack-whore puppet?

- if that ain't enough my Mommies 2011 Ford Expedition runs out of gas she wants an electric car so it will cost less to go foodstamp office Daddies gold tooth fell out the other day and he had to use chewing gum to keep it from falling out (he is trying to sell some of his gold necklaces) de President sez the evil white people have used all the money so there is non left.

The comment about schools only existing to teach kids how to put on condoms and teach them that homosexuality is 'ok' was almost a direct quote. Unfortunately, I was not able to find that one again this morning.

- Yeah just look at the education system from kindergarten to Yale it has become a joke. Communist indoctrination centers all.

-...schools should educate our children not be social feeding clubs of the leftist/socialist crowd...the children can not add or subtract now without a calculator...or spell for that mater or write in a manner that can be understood...///

- The reason the south lags in literacy and leads in obesity is that the south is where all the blacks are...

- Soon they will have the friendly gay pedophile puppet, "Mr. Pervy" to indoctrinate the kids into the NABLA fold.

- I've got another "deficit reduction plan" these people could try--get high schoolers qualified in woodworking or cooking or electronics or plumbing instead of teaching them why homosexuals are just like everyone else, and guess what?

-Are you a Heterophobic Sodomite Supremacist trying to ram your sexual views and non-morals down Christian throats? Just asking.

-Be thankful the creators of Sesame Street declined to have Burt & Ernie get married. Trust me it was talked about.

-If Obama is reelected, watch for him to federalize and nationalize the public education curriculum. Already being discussed. Hitler did that too

- The real goal is to condition the children to be good little socialists!

- Research your History and quit believing the nonense the Jew media and schools push.

I was referring not to the OP, but the 'Republican leaning posters on this forum' comment.

Actually I do. I'm not slogging through all those crazy articles (and before you twist it, I'm not calling all their articles crazy) and comments to prove someone else's impression. If you really want to know, you can simply follow the link in the Muppet thread. I'd rather not start to think of Republicans as people from that webpage. By why did you pick those two points?

And no, I don't find the idea that it's a bunch of liberal trolls posting all those racist and homophobic things compelling as they would have to outnumber the actual posters there.

Thanks for the snark though. For a minute I thought you were asking for the link in earnest.
