Explosion at the Boston Marathon.

Thanks.

I think an entire section of fencing was either blown to pieces or already removed and that the bomb was on the pedestrian side of the fence line.

ETA: Look at the before and after. The second to last piece of fencing on the right has a green sign attached at the upper right corner. (small boy standing behind in the before). Compare that green signs distance to the light poll to the left and it has hardly shifted its position in the after. I don't think the fencing was moved laterally by the blast and that an actual section was destroyed.

I agree that the other sections of fence haven't moved much. I just don't believe the missing section was somehow completely destroyed while that tree and mailbox look undamaged. It must have been removed by the first responders to get access to the victims that would have been right behind it.

Wait... somebody has their hands up in the air and on a rail at the same time?
Oh for pity's sake, look at the image. The person in the blue jacket with the white markings has their hands up at rail level. It's not a position you normally hold your hands up at for long.

That big stocky guy holding the kid on his shoulders. That would normally be the dad. But it doesn't look like Martin's dad.

There may be a problem with you believing the various Photoshopped words on pictures and captions at 4chan.
Martin's dad was in the race. The dad crossed the finish line, Martin hugged him, then went back to the spectator section. It didn't sound like the dad went back with him at that point. But either way, Martin could have been on anyone's shoulders there but it wouldn't have been his dad.

And you can stop with the ad homs that I have taken every caption on those images as truth because I haven't. I'm just posting my opinion. There's no reason for you to get all bothered by it.

That can't be the top of the fence rail. It would put it at the head height of the guy walking past. But we can clearly see that the fence is only waist height.

This is what I have for 4chan...

That was reported initially but it's not correct.

According to a Richard family spokesman, Bill Richard did not run the Marathon on Monday.

You are looking at something else.

There's no one walking past that fits your description.

Frankly I'm done here. Think what you want.

I see.

The boy's mother, Denise, and 6-year-old sister, Jane, were badly injured. His brother and father were also watching the race but were not hurt.

They had gone to get ice cream, then returned to the area near the finish line. Neighbor Jack Cunningham said Martin's father was a runner but had been injured and didn't run the marathon.

But whether or not the boy in the image is Martin, the bag is still where the bomb blast scar is, from what I see anyway.

CNN is now reporting that the two men that they were looking for earlier are now not of high interest.
I just had an awful thought: What if they don't find the person/people responsible? I really hope that's not the case. This latest news is pretty discouraging. Seems like they would definitely have photos of them somewhere.

Yea. I guess being 'eviscerated' isn't likely given the rest isn't that badly damaged. Maybe fragmented and tossed aside.

I am curious how these bombs work. I would assume the majority of the force would come out from the top or lid. I guess one day they will know exactly what the bomb looked like and what direction it was pointed.

This was the second bomb right?

There's some solid discussion on Reddit -- Find Boston Bomber, or some such.

Some bickering, but also some good discussion pinpointing exact locations of the blasts, nature of the circuit boards found, and who was standing where.

Yeah, none of that 4chan stuff has the images we've been waiting to see.

Maybe the FBI press conference at 5pm (15 minutes from now) will have something.

My early "hunch" -- of course -- was just about my prejudice and trying to fit this into the template of other bombers. Based on nothing.

eta: The bomber or bombers will be found, eventually. Of that I'm sure.

Don't be discouraged - it is still pretty early, and they (FBI?) may very well have photo leads, but are keeping it quiet so as not to risk the investigation.
