The problem is that there will be innocent and guilty people in the 'let it die' camp, there are certainly people who know which are which and a competent justice department should at least try and sort the sheep from the goats.

Agreed, they should. Absolutely should. But I think the people that sign their paychecks would much prefer they not do so, and that their own personal careers are more important to them than any sense of justice.

I don't have the link to the presser, but Trump's defensive reaction to the question about the list was about as close as you can get to a confession. If anyone has incentive to play up the Epstein files and the conspiracy theories it is Trump, since that is red meat for his base.
The fact that he is so anxious for it to all go away tell me he is very worried about what could be made public. His response was straight out of the Narcissism 101 handbook, trying to shame people for asking about something that his movement made such a huge issue of in the first place.
It screams self Guilt.

It seems that most of the "receipts" are being withheld by the Justice Dept. Obviously I don't personally possess any. It may be the first time you've heard of it but it isn't the first time I've heard about it. A quick Google search for Epstein Mossad found this:

I understand that really doesn't prove anything at all, but of course spy agencies don't tell the public who works for them. Those are state secrets, and it might be one part of the reason why so much information is being withheld from the public after all.

The most obvious connection is Ghislaine's Father, Robert Maxwell, who was critically involved with the Israeli leadership and Mossad for most of his life.

No one has ever explained how Ghislaine got to be Epstein's no.2 (or was it the other way around?).

Epstein's former lawyer Alan Dershowitz said this back in March.

Dershowitz, who represented Epstein, said in March: "I know the names of the individuals. I know why they're being suppressed. I know who's suppressing them…But I'm bound by confidentiality from a judge and cases, and I can't disclose what I know, but I, hand to God, I know. Dershowitz, emphasized that he has pushed for "total transparency" in the release of Epstein-related documents.

To be sure, we should remember that Dershowitz himself was once accused by the late Virginia Giuffre. She sued him, he countersued. He has always denied it:

This is probably 100% true. Problem is this administration has lied so many times that when they tell the truth nobody believes them.

To make matters worse nobody has any confidence in the FBI doing a competent impartial investigation either. So the 'internal review of the Epstein file yielded no smoking-gun' could just mean that they didn't do the job properly, or that they were pressured to come up with this result. But they could have ignored that pressure and done a good job anyway, just like they did in the Russia investigation. Remember that one, when liberals were so invested in it being a huge conspiracy directly involving Trump, while he and his supporters called it a hoax? Nobody wanted to accept the truth about that one either.

Trump has painted himself into a corner. Just like so many times before, he amplified a conspiracy theory to get support. When the Epstein list was supposed to be full of powerful democrats it was great. "Elect me and I'll release the sordid details 'they' don't want you to see!". But he's back in power now and doesn't need it anymore. Problem is his policies are upsetting a lot of people, and he is mentioned in the files - which are now just an embarrassment. So he's trying to make the monster he created go away - and nobody's happy. MAGA are starting to see that Trump is the swamp - another meme that's coming back to bite him.

There's a way to get in front of this - release the full unredacted report with all the evidence, so the public can see it for themselves. But it's probably too late now. So much about this case smells that nobody will believe they didn't cook the evidence. Normally that would make me sad, but not this time. I love the idea of Trump being taken down by lies that he promoted and now can't stop. I hope he goes to his grave wailing about how 'unfair' it is.

But neither of them can hold a candle to Trump for sending folks to jail as scapegoats. Ask Michael Cohen bout that.

It's not about who's in the files. It's about who had the power to see justice done, and declined.

The way you put it, this "justice" goes all the way back to the Clinton era, if not further. So why single out latecomer Trump? His predecessors seem to be much more fully invested in an Epstein cover up.

ETA: How are you so confident there's no Biden anywhere in the unreleased Epstein files? Have you seen the files? Can you explain why the Biden administration didn't publish the list of names, if Biden himself wasn't implicated?

If it's telling that the Trump admin has done nothing, it must be equally telling that the Clinton and Obama and Biden admins did nothing.
