How would they fake that and what do fake chimp movements look like?

I already said I could not prove it...

CGI little chimp markers in to the movie. They would look pretty much like what we see. The chimps move more like board pieces to me. Not sure how the chimps would show up so well on the forest floor, anyway. My guess is they didn't, and thus the inserted CGI chimps.

I wasn't the only one to notice that the scene looked like CGI. Looking at it again, it pretty much has to be. Possibly none of the animals in the "infrared" scene are real, imo.

Cant help but think that those Infrared images were CGI

it was

if you look at the last scene of the infrared scene

you will notice the way they move

they added those scenes just to make the documentary entertaining

It's a shame none of the thermal shots are real. You can see they are just animations if you watch closely.

Occasionally when the CGI characters stop, their legs keep moving.

if you check at 3 : 34 through 3 : 38 you'll see that those weren't real chimps being filmed with infrared !!!!!!!!

look at the monkey at the top left at 3:37 right near the end of that close up and you'll see a movement that is very similar to a video game character animation

also check at 3:37 the little monkey that gets "caught " looks very artificial -too bad

Haha that's so funny. When I started watching this I was wondering if they really had a helicopter with infared, and why it showed so clear through 100 ft high trees. Then I saw the weird animations you mentioned and figured it was fake lol. You're right it's too bad.

Well I guess I could always ask, doubt anyone will answer, nothing ventured nothing gained.

I don't doubt that the chimps hunt that way. I just doubt that this was an actual movie of such a hunt.
Yep, looks like CGI to me too, and the noise of an helicopter overflying the scene with a thermal camera would have been pretty disturbing for both hunters and preys IMO.
BTW, it looks like a remake of "The trials Of Life: Hunting and Escaping" by David Attenborough (1990):

Personally, I don't think that program was intending to provide actual footage of a real chimp hunt. I think they were trying to illustrate the style of hunting that chimps have been observed doing, and did it in a faux IR and pieced together chimp in the forest manner. An illustration of the hunting technique, not an exact photographic documentation.

That's not completely different from more cartoony styles from olden days, where they might have used 2D, "illustrated" reenactments, but keeping pace with technology that allows computer simulation that does the same thing (presents an illustrated, dramatic reenactment), but does so in contemporary, more realistic CGI fashion.
In other words, we "get the picture", without the picture actually being an authentic photographic recording.

^ I agree, but the helicopter-like sound (0'43") wasn't necessary and can be deceptive IMO.

Actually, when analyzing something like animation vs. real video, something that 'looks wrong' is typically wrong. Especially to people who know what they are looking for.

I think it's fairly obvious that the "IR" scenes are strictly representational and not actual footage. How do I know this?

There are no silver spots showing the cameramen on the ground filming the actual live action. If the IR footage was real, aside from the chimps in motion, we'd see the cameramen in motion, or at least static.

The famous, "Jump into the thread without reading and look foolish." bit...

Nicely done.

I have already posted, twice, in this very thread, that I have no proof.
Don't strain yourself reading my posts, though.

Do we now have to prove our opinions? If so, I predict that the number of postings will drop dramatically.

Prove that we have to prove our opinions. I'm skeptical that you can, or that we do.

:d

"Chimps are smart" isn't woo. The woo part was the anti-vax thing at the end - plus the "high school kids are slowly killing themselves with the poisonous food they eat."

I didn't read the article since I had heard of Natasha before, just clicked and posted the first article about Natasha that popped up on Google. Obviously I won't make that mistake again. :)

Well hell, it looked impressive to me. That's why I posted it.
