I keep seeing what seems like a casual dismissal of how important the usual course of due process is. Oh, well, if you get shipped off to a foreign country, no big deal. If your goods were not confiscated by the masked anonymous people who grabbed your backpack, maybe you'll still have a phone or a couple of bucks, and maybe you can phone an embassy, and maybe you can convince someone there that you're in the wrong place, and maybe you didn't leave any kids at home wondering where their parent went, and maybe you won't lose your job, and maybe all that will go wrong is that you'll have wasted a few days, and we all do that....and hey, gotta break an egg or two for that delicious omelet and a side of freedom fries.
One of the things I (and my naturalized wife) like most about being an American is that we do not have to prove anything to anybody. We do not have to carry papers, no phone, none of that stuff. She fled a dictatorship once already. We can walk down the road with empty pockets and because this is America nobody can come around and arrest us for no reason or demand our papers or....oh wait. That was yesterday. Those days are over. And I do have an opinion about that!
