Drag Shows!!

No, I am questioning whether the thread's assumptions are valid. Having a psychologist for a wife and having raised three kids leads me to believe y'all are making unwarranted assumptions. Kids, as I said, may compartmentalize colorful entertainers as clowns. That might be the "role" that these supposed "role models" are actually "modeling".

I'd say it's pretty safe to say we've all raised kids, or at least played a role in raising kids. I've raised 3 of them myself. That doesn't really give you any authority, or weight to your opinion. Unless your wife has done some deep studying, or specializes in a field that's related to child development, then that's just an appeal to authority without actually citing an authority or authoritative information.

You're also using a lot of "may", "might", etc. Anything is possible. What you say is possible, and it's also possible that a child that attends these will understand that people dressing in drag aren't bad, or strange, or freaks, as you've openly called them in this thread. They're just people that like something different. Nothing more, nothing less.

Okay. If the Drag Queens make clowns of themselves that's on them.

It still doesn't change anything being discussed.

You can't shift gears into "Oh I'm just trying to protect the Drag Queens from looking stupid" on page 25 of the discussion.

Well, unless it somehow ties into an argument that clowns should, also, not be able to read to children. I would be against clowns reading to children on principal. They're ******* scary.

I'm about midway through raising two kids. They've been exposed to LGBT people and culture their entire lives through our friends and my band activities. They've walked in several Pride parades alongside my band handing out fliers. Amazingly, neither has been groomed nor molested. Also, they have non-cis kids in their grades/classes and it's been no big deal and they have not bullied those kids.

Sure, it's an anecdote, but it's more than anyone claiming these story hours are harmful has actually presented.

I have a niece who's still trying to figure out who she is, and it's been tougher for my dad than anyone else in our family. He's by no means derogatory or anything like that but it still doesn't "make sense" to him how "these things can happen to a young child". We've explained to him that at her age, she's 10, it's normal for her to figure out who she's attracted to, and so on.

To his credit he's been open to listening, and treats her absolutely no differently than at any other point. He's just confused about it all, but growing up in rural Minnesota, then living in Fargo for 30 years before moving back to rural Minnesota doesn't get you a lot of exposure to different cultures.

Please explain why "gay people exist and aren't evil" is a concept you wouldn't want a 3 year old learning?

My nieces have been aware of gay people, trans people and drag queens since they were about 3 or 4. Why is this a bad thing?

Please note that this is not teaching sex ed to these children, so any attempt to claim that "they shouldn't learn about sex" is an obviously misleading strawman.

Explain why children learning that LGBTQ+ people exist and are just as normal as straight people is bad.

About the same age as when my kids learned. If they're old enough to know about men and women falling in love and living happily ever after then they're old enough to learn the same thing happens between people of the same sex.

Not sure what this has to do with like literally anything.

Staggering back to the OP: the site never actually says anything about drag, just the 'left's public sexual degeneracy' in Texas or some such thing. Yeah, that likely would mean DHS to this woman who sponsors the site, but it seems weird to derail the whole thread into talking about British pantomime and random Drag cons on other continents.

Is this woman a conservative political player (the thread is in USA Pol), or just some uptight Karen who isn't getting any, or what?

Not sure what this has to do with like literally anything.

Probably something along the lines of refuting claims that 'drag is "freaking obscure"', 'drag story hour is just adults trying to do adult sexy kink things in front of kindergartners', 'not mocking drag performers will absolutely result in kids deciding they're clowns,' etc.

The thread is labeled "Drag Shows". Seems like this event, judging by the article, is one of the biggest Drag Shows in existence.

I didn't know how far it had progressed:

Drag queens, bearded queens, drag kings and even drag monsters are all here to enjoy three days of partying and having fun with friends and colleagues.

I know there was a lot of concern by a few members here about drag being a mockery of women. I wonder who is going to stick up for the monsters? Won't someone PLEASE think of the monsters!

All-in-all a really cool article. Parts of it contests the idea that these individuals are doing it to mock women. Including this statement:

Many entered the world of drag born from a fascination in costume design, dress-making or theatre.

They seem to have left out the "Many entered drag to make fun of women!" section in the article. Some of the makeup and outfits are amazing. It also addresses children attending the event, and spoke to a few children about it as well. It's nice to hear actual, first person feedback from children. Great article. I can't imagine how anyone would think it was off-topic or not relevant to the thread, but whatever.

Click on the Report link.

ETA: oh, and the Donate link.

Thanks. I also got a security warning in the report link, and didn't think to click on donate, well, because I'd never give this woman a dime.

So. Sara Gonzalez, who runs the site. Seems she is a BlazeTV talking head, and was the one who attended the particularly vulgar drag show that had the guy doing "my pussy so good, my pussy so sweet" thing and lifting his skirt up at the audience, including children. So, gotta side with her on that one. Probably not appropriate for the little ones, even with the qualifier that if you wouldn't have your kids see an R or MA rated show, it prob wasn't for them. A ton of both R and MA are way more docile than a bearded man in a dress lifting it up to show his tidy whiteys to the kids while lip synching about ******* him all night, in person.

But it seems many viewers sided with our OP here, and vandalized the site to the point that it was crashing.

Still not only clear on how this thread turned into Drag shows! How are they not at all related to USA Politics?

The Pol angle seems to be...what? That conservatives don't like the idea of drag queens performing for their kids? Well, yeah, probably could have told you that. Is it good, bad, or indifferent to the kids? I dunno. It does seem like the reason it's popular is more because it is popular in adult eyes, rather than little kids badgering their parents to have a man in a dress read to them.

The funny thing is this Sara moron failed in the original statement:

She called for people to “join us in the fight to get drag shows for kids shut down for good”.

It wasn't for kids. It specifically said it wasn't for kids. The site that hosted it said it wasn't for kids and put a disclaimer saying as much. Sounds like this woman has an issue reading.

... So, gotta side with her on that one. ...

This is my shocked face that you'd side with a BlazeTV personality's report on what went on at a show she attended put on by a demographic you've repeatedly tried to demonize in this thread.

:slp:

I'm also not all that sure about this site being taken down by anyone at all. Submitting reports doesn't generally crash a site, things like DDoS attacks usually do that. It looks like the site DNS is cloudflare which can block DDoS attacks very, very easily.

Looks like it's back up now though.

There were multiple ads for this particular show. On the performers ad, it said adults only in a lower corner. Where you would actually buy tickets, it specified "This show is for all ages". So I can see where the confusion got in there. The host who you buy tickets from was the one who didn't proofread well.
