Dog consumption

When you say you think it is wrong can you clarify whether you mean 'It's wrong for me, and I wouldn't want to do it' or 'It's wrong for everyone'. I think you need to be clear on whether its a personal preference or a value judgement on others.

I do not eat any kind of meat as of now, so dog meat is out of the question.

I can not say it is wrong for everyone. As long as their is no physical abuse to the animals, and that the meat is consumed in desperate times, I now say that "whatever floats your boat, just dont rub it in my face"

You have to understand that where dogs are eaten, historically, it's been the only reliable source of meat. I can't fault someone for filling their hungry belly.

We in the West can!

We outlawed killing cute horses to sent overseas to horse meat-eating countries. Didn't that learn 'em?!?!?

I don't want to appear to be picking on you, but why the insistence on 'desperate times'? Why not just because you enjoy eating the meat of dogs?

What's the difference between a dog and a rabbit in this respect?

As for the question of abuse, better to have a regulated, open, commercial industry providing meat-dogs than backyard, black market dogfarms surely?

Why "desperate times"? Why not just respect the diversity of cultures without qualification?

And still it seems to be more out of the question than, say, pork or beef or horse meet or deer.

Special pleading, I think.

If I have a choice between dog, pork, beef and a vegan salad does it make any difference if I chose either of the three? Specifically, is there a difference between the dog and the pork or beef, so that I should rather chose one of the latter? If so, why?

(I understand the vegetarian/vegan POV. But from that point of view, eating deer or dog would be equally wrong.)

FWIW, I've eaten horse (which people do keep as pets, if rather large ones) and didn't like it. I would eat dog or Guinea pig.

Wow. I just looked at this thread. I thought it was about tuberculosis in dogs, not EATING them!

If you understand the recent work on the origins of dogs, it would appear they were livestock before they were pets.

I just don't see why it matters whether they're kept as a pet, or not. I've had pet dogs. I've eaten dogs. The dogs I ate were not pets. What's the problem?
