Disabled kids are God's punishment

That makes good sense. My autism is some sort of god-given punishment for my parents losing their first child. No abortion involved in that particular case, but the principle seems more widely applicable:

My best friend is gay. Should my son be diagnosed with cancer, I'll not worry about it, since it's just god punishing me for not stoning my friend to death years ago.

[edit] Sorry, overly caustic in this post. My point probably still stands, though.

People getting back at God by having kids. Take that God, take that.

On the other hand, Palin is going to be PISSED when she hears about this.

That, I doubt. The people involved don't have a "D" after their name.

And they're not from eeeeeeevil "Hollywood" (even though Bristol's now gonna be a movie starrr on ABC, that devil-worshipping homosexual company, but whatever, shut up)

No word from Miss Moosedroppings on any of it. I would not hold my breath...

I almost understand inflicting a disability on a bad person. There are people to whom I'd almost dole out deafness, Down's Syndrome, blindness, autism, etc., that is how terrible they are as human beings. It would certainly make them easier to live with and cause them to damage less people than they do.

On their child, though?! On their newborn baby?! To cause pain and suffering to a newborn human being that will last their entire lifetime because of who his/her mother or father is?! Making a bad person suffer is one thing- but to make their child suffer as revenge on the parent? What about the suffering of the other siblings, the child's grandparents, the other extended family members, etc.?

I wouldn't do that even to Stalin or Pol Pot or Hitler's children, let alone to a jerk of the regular variety.

As a guardian of a man with Down Syndrome, that's too good a thing to punish jerks. They should be so lucky.

I'd forgotten about this thread. The story has been making the rounds on Facebook the last few days.

My punishment, I mean, my son, recently gave a presentation before the Huntington Beach Union High School Board of Trustees on the use of technology in special education. It was the first time special education students had spoken in front of the school district board. I was very proud of him.

Congratulations! It must be a sign that you've repented enough for God to start to forgive you just a tiny bit, woo hoo!

Apparently the OP link has been archived and now only the abstract is free. But even linking to the abstract which I got to by searching the news site for "Disabled kids are God's punishment", still gets a dead link so here's the abstract:

Abstract (Document Summary)
As if it wasn't bad enough that Gov. McDonnell had just proposed elimination of waiver programs essential to the health and well-being of children, now Del. (Robert) Marshall, in his infinite wisdom, claims that children with disabilities are God's punishment? I am the proud parent of such a child -- most precious -- and as difficult as that degree of ignorance is to hear, Marshall simply made public the kind of mentality our community of people with disabilities has been dealing with for years and will continue to deal with long after everyone else has forgotten this appalling statement. [...] what's sad is that there are people out there (the same kind of people who believe "pro wrestling" is real) that will buy that ridiculous theory.

However, further searching found the actual press conference video care of Crooks and Liars:

It's interesting in that they cite a denial by the politician juxtaposed with the 'hear it for yourself' video. So hear it for yourself, it's only a tad over a minute long. I guess bearing false witness against yourself doesn't count in the eyes of the Lord.

It's predictable, just like the main theme in the Bible itself, they rant that if you don't believe what they believe you'll be sorry.

Reattaching the missing pic of Republican Delegate for Virginia and fundamentalist ding-dong Bob Marshall, referred to in posts #40 and #41, for those keeping score:
