Disabled kids are God's punishment

I have mixed feelings about abortion but that's just disgusting.

I guess all those Amish and Hasidic/Orthodox Jews that have such a disproportionate population of disabled children got it from their noted ungodliness and liberalism towards abortions.

Am I in the minority in not being offended by this?
I am not offended by people with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or any other of the multitude of mental disorders.
Why should the insanity this person manifests be any more offensive?

Bingo! we have a winner! :)

The problem is that the guy wont actually be identified as mentally ill, and will continue to spout this nonsense.

This is a nice illustration of process of Theology, though. Want to know the mind of God? Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat!

I really doubt his claim about the link between abortion and the increased chance of disabilities.

Though I'm not disabled much, God may have put me on this Earth to punish my ex-wife.

I've never had an abortion, but I have a disabled kid. God must be punishing me/him for some other reason.

He might be punishing someone else entirely.
Mysterious are the ways of the lord, and the ways of those who follow him.

I believe I see a pattern here:

-Haiti was a punishment from God
-Disabled kids were a punishment from God

In other words: God is this benevolent, superior being who goes along punishing people. Rather than creating a world where punishment isn't necessary, he goes along and creates a faulty world, and then punishes people. In other words, God is like a bored Neo-Nazi that likes to electrocute his laboratory mice out of boredom.

People say stuff like this and apparently never stop to think what it demonstrates about their God.
.
I see seriously disabled children with their obviously devoted parents at the Mall frequently, and wonder, in the light of "god's punishment", who is the evil doer that merits the wrath?
What could a fetus do in a womb that would merit physical and/or mental impairment for what life they will have?
Why would a guiltless child be smitten with physical and/or mental impairments to punish the parents?
There's not an "all-loving" rationalization that would even come close reconciling such trauma to a child, inflicted by that monster in the sky.

I wonder if this might be because of restrictions on abortion availability. I can perfectly well see a mother with "undesirable" DNA have an abortion because she knows she or the kid's father has a disposition for some syndrome or whatever. Then abortion laws are tightened, abortion is not a viable option, and child two comes out with some sort of defect.
.
Or meds during pregnancies.
Many of these are guaranteed to harm the fetus.
And the mother after the birth of such a child can have problems more serious than the usual post-partum stuff.
The ignorance and intolerance and pure hate in comments about disabled children and sin and retribution are heinous in the extreme.

They don't pull this crap from out of a hat. As mentioned earlier.

Seriously. Why doesn't God just encase fetuses (feti?) in teflon or something to protect them. Once they are born, their teflon protective shells can be shed and the baby can then proceed to keep its parents awake for the next 4 years.

No more abortions, no more punishments.

Some omnipotent, omnibenevolent being this turned out to be.

I almost understand inflicting a disability on a bad person. There are people to whom I'd almost dole out deafness, Down's Syndrome, blindness, autism, etc., that is how terrible they are as human beings. It would certainly make them easier to live with and cause them to damage less people than they do.

On their child, though?! On their newborn baby?! To cause pain and suffering to a newborn human being that will last their entire lifetime because of who his/her mother or father is?! Making a bad person suffer is one thing- but to make their child suffer as revenge on the parent? What about the suffering of the other siblings, the child's grandparents, the other extended family members, etc.?

I wouldn't do that even to Stalin or Pol Pot or Hitler's children, let alone to a jerk of the regular variety.

And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. John 9: 2-3

Since Delegate Marshall said "Nature" causes the birth defects, there's an outside chance that he spoke of bad biology, not bad theology. Of course, it's pretty
common for a first pregnancy to miscarry. There's no way that a
woman's body could tell the difference between an accidental abortion and a deliberate one.

As the parent of a disabled child I find this incredibly offensive.

I must admit, I don't respect most Christians, at least when it comes to theology. But these types, I do somewhat respect.

They don't give stammering, incoherent, wimpy b.s. answers when asked how a loving God could allow earthquakes in Haiti, Down's syndrome, etc. They boldly state that if your life is horrible in some way, it's because you (or your ancestors) displeased God, and you are being justly punished.

It's insane b.s., but it's consistent insane b.s.

It makes sense. It's an easy way to know if you're doing right by God. Are you healthy, wealthy and wise? You're doing what God wants. Are you sick, broke or otherwise in pain? You're doing something wrong.

I've known a few Christians like that--the ones who believed in real, daily, measurable punishment from God. They basically saw humanity and God's relationship as much the same kind of relationship that fictional characters might have with an author. Stephen King might visit all manner of torture and horror upon his characters, and what right would they have to complain? None. They are merely creations, merely figments of King's mind. Any small mercy King might show upon them, they should rejoice for--King, as God of their world, has the right to do anything he likes to them, for the sake of his own entertainment, and the entertainment of his readers. Hardcore vengeful-God fundies view the Lord just like Stephen King, and earth as a novel that God is writing. Probably just a first draft, too.

Bob Marshall is nature's punishment to Bob Marshall for Bob Marshall.

We've never had an abortion, but it's our second child who has a disability. Maybe God's record-keeping is a bit sloppy. If I told him my daughter's still alive, do you think he'd cure my son?

Gee, Bob Marshall has bad eyesight - what peccadillo did his mother commit for him to suffer in that way? ;)
