Destroyed Atlantis = Menorah

Well the pattern continues....

You haven't actually read the dialogue that contains the hearsay description of Atlantis and how it subjugated the whole of the Mediterranean (bar one noble defending holdout) and ENSLAVED the vanquished.

(The actual dialogue isn't that long. Had you bothered to give it five minutes you wouldn't have made such an amateur mistake.)
I'm sure when Plato uploads the video to YouTube the evidence will be considered.

Here I thought the Menorah was a practical way to have multiple candles arranged in a way that is convenient to construct, display and light. Kind of form follows function.

Dolphins must be evolution culturally appropriating sharks. What else could it be?

This is quite helpful in that respect.
Interestingly, Atlantis is, according to Plato, also credited with conquering Egypt, Libya and parts of Italy. We can only hope that, one day, archaeoligists will finally turn their attention to these remote and unexplored lands. Who knows- maybe there were other civilisations as well as Atlantis in those areas which await discovery along with the remains of the Atlantean cities and artefacts? It is also conceivable that these other cultures may have even progressed so far as to have written records of their histories, from which we may glean more knowledge of Atlantis.

More evidence no one will address directly...

I've presented my case. Now, I await a 'better' explanation.
A better explanation of what? Nothing you've presented requires any more explanation than "earthquakes and sea level changes submerge shoreline buildings" and "there are many possible designs of lampholders, the Jews picked a pretty one".

Are you actually claiming that there is evidence outside of Plato's story that Atlantis conquered large parts of the Mediterranean?

I'm sure people will happily address your evidence of an Atlantis-occupied Egypt as soon as you present it.

You're missing out on the true revelation by not connecting all the dots.

I mentioned earlier that there are two separate flood narratives in the Torah: the story of Noah's flood, and the story of Moses hidden in the rushes as an infant. But there is a third: the story of how "Pharaoh's" pursuing chariots were destroyed by the water after the parting of the Red Sea.

Does that sound similar to any other story you've read, about how a mighty military threat was rendered harmless by the hostile land being submerged under water by the power of a god?

The realization of this similarity makes the truth obvious: the Israelites were not enslaved in Egypt at all. They were enslaved in Atlantis! That explains why there's no record in Egypt of an army being drowned while pursuing escaping slaves, or of ten plagues ravaging the land. The Israelites had just enough time to escape the sinking, and naturally the sinking thwarted any pursuit. So the story was slightly mis-remembered; the sinking being delayed just long enough became YHWH "parting" or "holding back" the water to allow an escape, and the sinking itself became YHWH releasing the water to drown the pursuit.

Now, just imagine that this is happening, and the Israelites, safe on the "far shore of the Red Sea" (actually, wherever they reached the mainland coast) see from miles away the capital of their former captors, complete with its concentric rings and central canal, turning vertical like a coin turned on edge, half of it sinking below the water and the other half rising high into the air, like the Titanic did as it sank. The visible upper half would have formed the perfect shape of an upside down menorah, a sign that the survivors would surely remember and pass on.

The story is now consistent with everything in the Torah, everything Plato wrote about Atlantis, and everything in Cameron's all-important documentary. Except, in each case, for the parts they got wrong.

Wow, it all makes sense now!

Cameron's movie, "Titanic" was just a promo for his barf-bag documentary, "Atlantis & Menorah".

You're not addressing evidence directly.

You're not addressing evidence directly.

There is no evidence to address directly or indirectly. We're waiting for you to provide some. I realize this is difficult when you haven't even read the source material, but do give it a try.

> First, you implied that Atlantis was a pacifist land that didn't militarize the oceans.

> Next, you run away when numerous of us point out that Plato's dialogue actual mentions that they conquered all of the Mediterranean including Egypt and Libya.
>>>>>> You won't even address your own unfamiliarity with the work you're claiming offers us proof.

> Now, we've accepted for you that Plato mentions their conquest of the Mediterranean nations and all you need do is show us something in the vast historical records of Egypt, just to choose one, that refers to having lived under Atlantean domination.
>>>>>> That should be pretty easy for a scientist of your vast knowledge.

Oh my goodness. I have heard this about Americans, but I wasn't sure it was true.

And our next class will be on recognizing sarcasm.

KotA clearly needs it. Maybe he'll understand now.

Sorry, are you suggesting that Cosmic Yak's sarcasm is misplaced and there really is evidence for Atlantis amongst the (already ample, of course) relics and records of these other ancient cultures? If so, by all means point to it.

You're not addressing evidence directly.

Nope, he still doesn't get it.

Spelled out about as clearly as can be.
King of the Americas, how about it? Now you understand sarcasm (we hope), and assuming you are aware that archaeologists have spent more than a little time in this region, perhaps you could show us the evidence they have unearthed showing Atlantean conquest and occupation? Physical artefacts, historical records, anything at all. That would be lovely.

This is quite helpful in that respect.

Perhaps you'd like to address it directly.
Especially this part:
[W]e would do well to remember that Plato was not a historian but a philosopher, that he frequently used similes and metaphors to express his thoughts, and that, in his own words, delivered from the mouth of Critias: "It is inevitable, I suppose, that everything we have all said is a kind of representation and attempted likeness"

At least, this thread and the other thread on Hancock makes you part Himmler.
The part that falls for every tall tale of a lost great ancient civilization

Are you already drawing up plans to erect your own Wewelsburg? :p

OMG, the Sun wheel mosaic is obviously another map of Atlantis, from after the redevelopment into a hip urban center. Let's go get an artisanal orichalcum frappé.
