Correlation does not imply causation.
A lot of countries with no death penalty whatsoever have lower murder rates than the US - most of them, in fact.Tmy said:If the DP is so great wouldnt Texas be the safest place in the States? They fry people all the time, have pretty liberal gun laws.
Do they have the lowest per capita murder rate??
Maybe because the death penalty is more expensive than life in jail? Face it, you're going to finance his punishment anyhow ...Originally posted by BPSCG
How's this for a reason to support the death penalty? Whenever a guy comes up to me on the street and asks me for a dollar, I refuse. So why should I give him money (in the form of food, clothing and shelter for life) if he kills someone for that dollar? I wouldn't give him money to keep him alive even when he had otherwise done me no harm. So why should I give him money when he's done grievous harm?

So what ?
You just don't execute people. Even if you think they deserve it.

Tmy said:When hasnt Texas had the DP?? You're gonna compare 1950's Texas wh todays??
I think its better to compare 2 states sharing the same socio-economic timeperiod. That balances the other variables that effect the muder rate.
