Merged DDWFTTW in a “Real” Wind

I picked up the foam pieces that Pat Enright CNC'd for our turbine today. They look great! I hope to start getting them glassed in the next few days.

Humber must be exhausted.

And the latest incarnation of Harold too. But don't count them out. humber is, I guarantee you, mulling over some new claim that will prove that spork is the charlatan of the century, and therefore of the millenium, since we are in only its eleventh year:D

humber is probably now waiting for us to go upwind faster than the wind. Then his claim will be that overall we don't move in any direction.

It's a failed downwind cart! A piece of trash. Something built like a 10 year old would build! It can't work because it has ratchets....

Just trying to get ahead!

You forgot at least:

- Shameless copy of a 60+ year old idea
- Vibrations, vibrations, vibrations!
- Latch & Feedback

Also, you omitted a crappy comparison with any electric/electronic circuit of your choice, and you have thrown way too few insults.

Really, go back to the drawing board and work on your humber skills a bit more. That was a truly lousy attempt :D

Greetings,

Chris

Nothing moves in any direction in the humberverse, not even GPS satellites, since they are geostationary. Just do the humber-test and jump. Did you land where you jumped from? See, no movement!

Greetings,

Chris

I've always wanted to violate the laws of thermodynamics.
Spork hasn't done it...

but he's come closer than I have.

Perhaps more helium?
Magnets; crystals; plasma?

Grumble.

God doesn't love me enough.

If god loved me enough I'd be all about over unity.

I'd be in freaking perpetual motion.

What was really embarrassing for him is the extra transparent way he tried to discount the force analysis. At least the Harold clones tried a little harder to mask it with a lot of bs prose, he just flat out said he didn't care about it.

None of them has ever even tried to show that the net force on the cart would be negative above wind speed. All they can do is try to show there isn't enough energy, by playing fast and loose with energy bookkeeping. And asking the rhetorical question about where the energy comes from to turn the propeller, which is, frankly, hard to answer when restricted to a ground frame analysis the way they insist upon doing.

Even humber has explained how a chain does negative work on a tractor and uses that negative work to perform positive work on the plow and dirt. Yet he pretends the drive train of the cart can do negative work on the cart while not doing (actually negative work in the ground frame) work on the air, by way of the propeller.

The KE loss of the air has been shown to match the losses and KE of gain of the cart system repeatedly. And none of them has actually shown where those calculations are wrong. All they can do is repeat ad infinitum their own inverse ENRON bookkeeping.

Or make unfounded assertions about why the theory of the cart, along with Martin Hepperle's implementation of blade element theory of propellers and l/d characteristics of airfoils, so closely matches the actual performance of the cart.

I provided all the information necessary for anyone to reproduce the results I got, while humber has provided nothing but innuendo, attempted ad homimems, and bald assertions as refutation.

I don't blame him for giving it up...... or perhaps he got a job.... I, myself have been hampered lately by circumstances from contributing much lately. Though his lack of activity has only re-enforced that tendency.

Two times now he has gone quiet recently when someone has pointed out how many words/posts he'd made over three years without any result.

Perhaps he just realised he's wasted a big chunk of life.

I think Report Watch will have slipped into Biannual, or even maybe Biennial review status.

If i was more clever I would take on a humber-type role; for the dialog it brings out.

I feel this thread finally dying; for lack of humberness. i will miss it.
thanks humber.

Thanks spork!

sail on with the wind; whichever direction it blows.

much thanks to all.

I'm out of here.

For anyone still interested, here is a 2D animation of BB's Record run.

The Brown checkerboard represents the ground, each square is 60 ft. The Blackbird Symbol is 20 ft long.
The blue Swirlies represent the air, and the green arrow is the apparent wind direction.

Awesome, what software do you use for that?

A Flash authoring program called SwishMax 4, with a ton of action script.

It occurred to me that although none of the 3d programs that I have possess a way to import data, at least that I could find easily, the action script in that Flash program should be able to, and I was right.

Llyricist Dude - In my book you join the DDWFTTW HOF for all the work you have done with your super cool visualizations of the data.

Kudos.

Thanks. Glad people appreciate it.

I just wish I had set it up originally as 720p instead of 800 x 600, and that the velocities worked more consistently across the graphic images so the gaps and overlaps wouldn't appear when I leapfrogged them.
