Merged DDWFTTW in a “Real” Wind

Yes, it is even better in flash. And you can see why that since the wind was almost always blowing slightly to the south the apparent wind direction did not jump around like crazy when the cart was going at the speed of the wind. If spork was going much closer to directly downwind it would have been jumping around in front, behind, to the left and to the right. Are some of those changes in apparent wind something that humber was complaining about in the various tests? Oh... wait, we are talking about humber. Of course he complained.

I made a few improvements beyond the visual quality between exporting the AVI and uploading the flash. I figured out how to use a giant shape filled with much smaller tiles for the ground and air, so no seams. I also found that there is something wrong with the AVI export in that program that speeds up all the velocities, at first I thought the preview was just running slow, but it wasn't. I also bumped the frame rate from 15 to 30 to smooth it out more.

Very cool animation. Thanks. Is it possible for me to download a copy? I'm trying to maintain a folder with some of the best descriptions, animations, articles, etc.

What SZ said about the wind always blowing to the South was bothering me, because it wasn't, particularly before the push start. It turns out I had an error in the apparent wind calculations that was basically giving absolute values for the wind angle. I fixed it, the "watch it" link is now here:

the Download links for the swf and html are here:

And for the EXE:

Awesome graphics.

Anything else interesting happening over there?

Nope. You have heard that they have started on the work necessary to make the Blackbird an upwind vehicle, right? I think that was posted here. Llyricist took suggestions from others on how to improve his animation and that is about it. Without humber the noise to signal ratio is much lower. Actual work can be done.
