Did jDuffy hijack humber's account? That last post could only be the product of his humbersim. Surely no sentient human could assemble such a hodgepodge of non sequitor nonsense.

surely??

yes, I know better by now... but wow.

Even better, I think that jDuffy is channeling humb:eek:

Immobile ~ stuck

Can't see it? Stuck, like a dense oak table.
No, I actually didn't see that, presumably because it's too lame, across languages, and it doesn't work for two reasons:

"stuck" and "stuk" are pronounced quite differently.
The word "meubel" actually derives from the word "mobile"; furniture being the mobile parts of ones home.

And finally, meubelstuk is something you could call someone who is always there, which is how I understood it. And you are the furniture of this thread, if anyone is.

I am sure you don't care about Newton. You know better.
I care an enormous amount about Newton; I work with his work almost daily. However, I just don't care about any of your numbers anymore, not even when you happen to express them in Newtons.

...(the majority of European languages get their word for ‘furniture’ from Latin mōbīle ‘movable’: French meubles, Italian mobili, Spanish muebles, German möbel, Swedish möbler, Dutch meubelen, Russian mebel’ – indeed, even Middle English had mobles, though it retained the broader meaning ‘movable property’). By another route, Old French furnir has also given English veneer.

And finally, meubelstuk is something you could call someone who is always there....
Or immovable. Stubborn. Stuck. Refuses to accept that the pun works.

Cart wheel is 0.08m diameter. Count the number of frames it takes to move. Then you can calculate the force. All in the video that says beyond a doubt you are wrong, and a consequence of a naive view of relative motion.

Sigh, okay, they have a common ancestor, fine.

Yes, that is what I meant by calling you and this discussion "perpetuum immobile".

Nah. "perpetuum immobile" is a cliche.
The piece of furniture (meubelstuk) is a love seat for one.

I'm sure you think you can.

It's easy. Wheel = 0.08m diameter. Count the frames ( note that the camera pans, so use the spirit level as a reference.)

When the prop is attached, there is 1J of KE at 800rpm. An engineer can then use the thrust to allow the wheel to restore what is lost, so no energy will find its way to the cart's chassis, and it sits at around 0m/s wrt the ground, as the wheels turn the prop.

If the cart were to "travel faster than the belt" the power would become unreal ( the cart must drive the belt).

Very well then. You are the fascinatingly impractical and uncomfortable antique chair grandpa left, that no one can get rid of because it's just too absurd.

A self-polishing love seat for one from Ikea.

Not that easy, apparently.

very easy

It may help you to think about "rolling resistance"; a force that is independent of velocity.
Although not quite like that, the force from the belt remains independent of belt speed. That means a limit to the power that may be applied to the prop, so regulating its AV.

Now it's easy to see how something other than a prop can keep the cart in place as the belt does all the work on the angular components, and why it can't possibly be "traveling at the speed of the belt".

Firstly, your link doesn't work.

Secondly, if it is easy to see how something other than a prop can keep the cart in place on a belt, you should have no trouble explaining it, in simple terms, for those of us who do not inhabit the Humberverse.
Explanation, please.

You're just asking for more source fragments for jduffy's program, you realize that right? And they probably won't be as coherently presented as jduffy's post above.

So you can push a propless cart up the belt and pick it up before it starts moving backwards. Not very impressive.

ETA: What I see is about 4 seconds of video of a propless cart moving up the belt. The release of the cart is not on the video. The cart is picked up after about 4 seconds. I'm not surprised that after all the hoopla, we get something this lame.

ETA: I looked at the video again. The cart is moving with the belt. So, even less amazing than I initially thought. Absolutely nothing. Also, if the sound is any indication, a bearing somewhere on that treadmill is about to go out.

Attempting to decipher the "code"!

Apparently, Humber is trying to explain some mysterious force that will keep a propless cart stationary even though all videos show exactly what is expected of propless carts that they travel down TM just as a propless cart when released at speed will slow to a stop on the ground (unless in a gale in which case it might blow along slower than the wind.) If I'm reading his incoherent "statements" for intent. I think he is trying to characterize from the videos the behavior of the cart.

He seems to be trying to justify to himself how a TM can make a cart "motivate" when he believes it can't do it in the "wild".

It looks like since he has convinced himself that the TM is "different", that he thinks he can figure out dynamics that let the cart go up TM in contrast to what it can do in the "wild" ('wild' meaning on the earth with a tailwind.)

We may have quite a wait while he babbles about how he can create his cart that runs on a TM with no access to the air or frame of the TM.

Good luck with that, Humber!

If this is the attempt, I'm sure we can expect more incomprehensible babble like JDuffy's post as he struggles to understand the "mysterious dynamics" of a TM.

No, just seeing if you can work it out. To see how how you react to direct evidence and being given a description of what the cart really does.

The Carteers will top the denier's list, with a recorded history to back it up.

link works fine.

Until you show more than 4 seconds of video, and the experiment is replicated by others, you have nothing.

ETA: As I put in my other post, on watching the video again, I see the cart is moving with the belt, so humber hasn't even attempted to fake it yet.

I see four seconds of badly time stretched video, I have no idea what that is supposed to prove.

ETA: It may even be running backwards but the audio is so chopped it difficult to tell without really looking at it properly.
