You know something? MaGZ actually didn't lie in that post, not about Mr. Bernard's impression. I fully believe that the man did indeed think that it was a bomb that went off.

The whole problem lays in anyone continuing to think that first impression had any validity after it became obvious what happened to the towers. You can't fault Mr. Bernard for having that thought at first. It's everyone who subsequently takes it to mean that a bomb was truly there who's indulging in distortions.

Yeah, airplanes running into buildings is such a common occurrence that he should be able to discern the difference. Even if he stated, "a bomb went off," there wasn't a point of reference for him to think it was something different. The facts show that he heard an airliner crashing into a building and was hit by the falling debris.

ETA: If he said, "I saw a bomb and it exploded," that would be a whole different matter.

At least for a while. From just the info in the OP, I got the mental image of this: David regains consciousness in hospital, his wife informs him that he was hit by debris that was caused by Flight 175. He says "wow, I thought it was a bomb."

Years later, well after his death, his wife mentions that he thought it was a bomb.

There's nothing there that indicates he thought it was a bomb after he was informed what it really was.

Nowhere does it say that he 'experienced' the explosion. He was on vesey street, where he wouldn't have seen the plane approach WTC2. From his point of view, all he saw was the fireball erupt from WTC2 on the opposite side from the impact. So he saw what looked like a bomb, and was then hit by debris falling from the explosion.
