Cyborgs?

As this is not really discussing the science, but is being related back to potential RC scenarios for 911, it is staying here for now.

It's a missile guidance system technology from 1993 that was being installed in Boeings pre-911. What's not relevant about it? The technology was there.

Um... it was a gyro-stabilising chip, not a guidance system.

The State Department had determined in 1993 that the chip, used in the guidance system of the Maverick missile, "has significant military utility." That put the devices on a list of products that require a license for foreign sales.

What is a gyro? Quite simply, it is a device that can sense rotation. It's handy for changing aircraft and helicopter flight and response characteristics, since the model has to rotate when it's disturbed by wind gusts or maneuvering. We can use a gyro to reduce aircraft rotations and "smooth things out."

I know what a gyro is, you obviously don't. Judging by what you've posted and what you've bolded, I'm going to say you have no idea whatsoever what you're talking about. Again.

I don't know, gumboot, maybe LastChild was conceding defeat with that last post. Everything he posted completely supported what you had already said.

After reading the OP, I'm trying to figure out how some of you surmised that this had to do with 9/11 and/or remote control planes. The two aren't even vaguely connected.

Has anyone actually said that it was technically impossible to rig a 757/767 to be flown remotely?

I thought it was more of a case of doing it with out anyone noticing that the planes were altered or switching the planes mid flight.

The whole idea in my opinion just adds more people to the already over crowded conspiracy.

I believe one of the aero techs here wrote a paper on how it would be pretty much impossible to implement a remote Boeing 757/767 takeover (that is remote control of the aircraft against the crew's wishes). The bottom line generally came back to, if all else failed, the crew could pull the fuses and fly without any power.

You obviously are trying to move the goalposts. I didn't say it was the guidance system. I said it was used in guidance system technology for missiles all the way back to 1993. I also showed where it's used in remote control. And I sourced it. Don't throw a tantrum.

Maybe you should stick to writing fiction.

You claimed it was technology that enabled remote control of aircraft. It is not. Transmitters are also used in remote control, does that means any aircraft with a transmitter can therefore be taken over by remote control?

Obviously not.

Stop embarrassing yourself.

Oh I did huh?

I'd say you were the embarrassment but you're probably not smart enough to come to such a realization. Like I said stick to your fiction. Just leave me out of it.

Oh I did huh?

Yes, you did.

There is no way that cyborg technology is a step backwards from steering a plane by remote control. That's idiotic. Boeing was even given a record fine for installing the same kind of chip in planes that is used in missiles and then selling some of those planes to China.

Just to recap for you...

You claimed technology to control an aircraft by remote control has been in development for years.

You then cited an article about Boeing putting a military-use gyro-stabilising chip in airliners.

You were questioned on the relevance of this article to remote controlled aircraft.

You then claimed it was relevant as it proved remote-control technology was already in place.

You are, of course, totally wrong. The person who questioned the relevance of the article about Boeing and their chips was correct to do so. The installation of military-use gyro-stabilising chips in civilian airliners has absolutely no relevance to remote control of said airliners whatsoever.

You fail. Again.

LastChild, you've been called on your misunderstanding. You lost. I suggest you let it die.

Yes, you did.

Don't tell me what I meant just because you have nothing. You are full of fiction. Get back to writing your comic book.

Wow...that's quite a retort there, LC. Way to set Gumboot straight.

Diagrams: Boeing patents anti-terrorism auto-land system for hijacked airliners
DATE:01/12/06
By John Croft
Boeing last week received a US patent for a system that, once activated, removes all control from pilots to automatically return a commercial airliner to a predetermined landing location.

The “uninterruptible” autopilot would be activated – either by pilots, by onboard sensors, or even remotely via radio or satellite links by government agencies like the Central Intelligence Agency, if terrorists attempt to gain control of a flight deck.

Wow, LastChild, you're really reaching with that one.

ETA: No one has said that controlling a plane remotely is impossible in principle. The issue is, modifying a commercial airliner to allow this would require the dedicated work of thousands of people, every last one of whom would need to be trusted to act treasonously to his country and keep quiet about it. Every single one. Thousands.
