I'm siding with the cop, here.
You are siding with cops having the right to summarily execute someone?

The driver seems to be escalating the situation, refusing to give his docs and telling the cop that he was going to be on his way ("no, I'm going to work") no matter what the cop said. This goes on till the cop says "no, you're going to give me your licence, registration and insurance" while opening the door. Sounds a lot like the cop had been repeating this for a while and was losing patience.
The guy wanted to know why he was pulled over. By his own admittance, he did not have his belt in, no license plate, and he knew he had a suspended license and had no insurance. So he's trying to bully the cop into letting him be on his way, because he knew how this stop was likely to end up.
So the cop says something stupid: "this is how you guys get killed out here man". Might that just mean "you guys who needlessly escalate and refuse to comply with a lawful order"? Coin flip on interpretation, I guess. I don't think the cop was referring to seat belt safety at all. But I'm not sure this was a black thing, so much as a needlessly antagonizing a cop thing. The driver was clearly agitated and appears hostile. Of course he was; no tag, no belt, no valid license or insurance. He thought he was about to be arrested. But the cop actually went easy on him.
If that's what you got out of my response, sure. Whatever you want to hear.
This is a perfectly reasonable alternative to the ‘cop is a racist’ default position I have adopted. Certainly it is more reasonable than the copaganda hand waving BS excuse provided by the Cop Protection Racket spokesperson.
My bad.. I thought The cop killed the guy, since this topic is about cops killing guys..
I re-read the story..
Just another un-educated NFL wanna-be who didn't make the cut for the pros, but met the standards for a police department and a license to kill.
The thing is, even if the cop meant "you guys who fight us", his killing comment is still light years over the acceptable line. A cop can't imply that he is ready to kill someone for any reason at all.
A cop shouldn’t be able to imply with impunity that a citizen is at fault when cops kill him. Unfortunately, in most jurisdictions he can do exactly that and receive a pat on the back for doing so. I’m afraid such conduct is all too acceptable still.
So are you abandoning any racist angle, then? Or still clinging to that one also, for now?

And so he felt it necessary to threaten the guy giving him a hard time with lethal force as per protocol. Really wanting to know why a cop pulled you over is enough justification for the cop to kill anyone. Really more customer service personnel need a licence to kill, think how many fewer Karen's there would be if you could get shot for it.

I'll agree that it isn't good PR. But it is probably true, regardless. The cop PR department trying to sanitize it down is totally acceptable, imo (if that is what they are doing). I mean if we are going to ignore reality on these matters, fair is fair.
To be clear, are you arguing that it is an acceptable outcome for a cop to shoot a citizen that does not cooperate with a cop? I ask because you say that it is bad PR, but you do t say that it is bad practice.
I'm arguing that the fact of the matter is that resisting and fighting with cops is more likely to get you killed. And so, even if the cop was saying that was the case, he wasn't wrong. He was just being honest.
But that makes for bad PR, even though it is true. So it wouldn't be unexpected to see some spin put on it by the PD.
While I get your point, the only thing that should "get you guys killed" is threatening someone's life, not arguing or being uncooperative.
While I get your point, I'm just saying that reality is that resisting or fighting with cops is more likely to get someone hurt or killed. People need to understand this, whether it is ideal or not. I don't see what the cop said as any direct threat, no matter what he meant by it. And we still don't know that for sure, and I think I'd also like to see the full video of the encounter. So, until then, I am ok with taking the Police PR account of things.
I'm not going to jump to a conclusion of a police attempt at covering up racist intent.
It's a reality I acknowledge, for sure. That's exactly the problem. "Argue with a cop and the odds are we will kill you, and blame you for starting it" is not exactly a noble position for a cop to take.
Today, in America, a citizen that refuses an unlawful order from a cop is quite likely to be (if white) arrested under false charges or (if Black) get killed.
