Merged Copaganda/Torturing the English language whenever a cop kills someone

One guess who did the shooting:

Scottsboro officer killed, wife critically injured after shooting

A Scottsboro woman is fighting for her life after being shot on Monday night. Investigators confirm a Scottsboro Police officer shot his estranged wife before killing himself.

Officials say 46-year-old Stephen Miller shot his estranged wife, Amanda Miller, at the home on Berry Road. According to Scottsboro Police Captain Erik Dohring, officers received reports of shots fired shortly after 8:50 p.m. on March 14.

Did you guess correctly?

Bullying works!

Haha.. that's hilarious. I clicked on the link earlier and saw the headline as you reported it.

I guess someone who works for that media outlet realized that they're supposed to be journalists, not PR for the police.

I'd argue this not a reporting on police issue so much as a journalism of everything. It's very common practice for news sources to just parrot press releases and call it reporting, regardless of the source.

Can you provide an example not involving law enforcement in which the facts are twisted so egregiously?

It's one thing to parrot a press release, it's another thing to do it when it's a wild distortion of reality.

One of the HEMA sites I follow had a discussion on “sword canes”, and the guy was reading 18th and 19th century newspaper (British) accounts of various incidents and crimes involving these weapons.

Back then, news reporters were not shy about writing about gory details!

I'm not going to look it up, but I saw probably the worst ever copaganda headline yesterday. It was something like, "Policeman dead, wife in critical condition after shooting"

If you read the article, it's all about an attack on a cop and his wife.

Oh, not really.

No, it was attempted murder/suicide by the cop.

I realize that I don't have the link, but I'm serious, that is how the headline read. "Policeman dead, wife in critical condition." The cop's death got top billing, and it was described as a "shooting" with no information on who did the shooting.

Yeah, if you read the article, the truth came out (in the 2nd paragraph), but the headline was the worst.

BTW I just want to say to Suburban Turkey a very hearty screw you because now I have Barry Manilow singing "Copaganda" to the tune of "Copacabana" in my head.

And I want to say, screw you Joe, because that thought HADN'T crossed my mind until you brought it up and now...
I don't know who's singing it in my head, but they are, you bastard!

I'm fine with this sort of thing. It is the perfect response to the copious amount of meritless cop-bashing and stereotyping that is in vogue these days. I don't hear many complaining about that, here or otherwise, of course. It wouldn't be trendy, after all..and where would these people get their affirmation fix?

If anything, we need more of this distortion, in order to achieve equilibrium. I have to admit, it warms my heart when I hear people squeal over it.

You mean reporting the facts in a clear way?

Do you have an example that shows large scale ‘cop-bashing’ by the media?

I didn't say the phenomenon was confined to the media. And, don't forget the stereotyping.

Have you looked around this forum lately? You might start there.

I would not be surprised if a lot of those who lap it up and/or promote it also refuse to acknowledge its existence. I'm not saying you are one of those people, but I think a lot of those who deny it are.
