No. The actual quote is this:

Your reinterpretation is something different.

I think my interpretation was roughly accurrate, but you are welcome to your own interpretation. I don't see any outrage or attempt at censorship in the quote.

I did read it. If you'd like, I'll respond to his claims one by one and try to explain why he failed to say anything informative about #metalgate.

Ok, tell us why.

Umm, if you say so, I guess? I mean, just a little bit further down, you claim people have been doing this since forever. It's not the author's responsibility to prove a negative - ie that there isn't a group trying to do this, but in the very same article he asserts that complaints of PC intruding metal is not something new.

He's saying there isn't a group banding together to try to change metal in a specific way. But there are, and have long been instances of people complaining about certain things they don't like about metal and/or metal fans. I don't see a contradiction.

Yes, it is, and I call straw man. I don't even know what "failed with #gamergate" is supposed to mean. The SJW clique is still very much alive in gaming community and gaming press.

Who they?

People involved in the #gamergate drama and the people complaining about metal and/or metal fans.

Of course there isn't. Another straw.

More straw.

I would think so.

Yes, PC is nothing new to metal. SJWs are just another generational manifestation of it. The fact that it's not new or that it won't succeed doesn't address whether #metalgate is or isn't a thing.

Kind of impossible to explain why it isn't a thing without straw when AFAIK no one has clearly explained what "#metalgate is a thing" means. All one can do is try to infer what is being implied and then asses whether that is happening or not. Perhaps some people find it super scandalous that some guy wrote something asking metal fans to stop saying the f word and that a Spin magazine writer thinks that metal should get on "the right side of history" by becoming more socially liberal and thus, to them, #metalgate is "a thing" and the metalsucks writer is off base.

I'm watching #metalgate with some interest and humor. If anyone has any remote inklings that metal itself, from the absolute very beginning wasn't socially conscious, then they may as well take the S and J out of their moniker forever
I'm still curious about what this statement means. I don't remember there being a great deal of social consciousness associated with heavy metal in the Midlands in the 70s.

I'm pretty sure "War Pigs" was one of the earliest songs on peoples' minds when it came to heavy metal

(What a strange turn of phrase.) I'm not sure that one song about how war is bad, man, really establishes that metal was socially conscious, especially when it was vastly outweighed by songs about Satan, witches, Tolkein-inspired fantasy or lemons.

So, I stopped by the A+ forum to see if Trigger Warning (TW) had actually been replaced by Content Note (CN) and all that place is missing right now is a tumbleweed. It also appears that Trigger Warning triggered itself (because the word trigger is triggering?) out of existence and was replaced by Content Note.

IIRC the reason it looks like a tumbleweed is because there's a secret forum that's super safe for the in group there.

In retrospect, that was probably the best choice for them.

In other A+ related news, there is to be a new blog network someday soon...

So, basically, he's finally discovered what a complete joke he's become outside of his tiny little echo chamber, and is trying to regain some of his former prestige.

Good luck with that.

Actually, he's done the same thing before in the not-too-distant past. Nothing came of it then, and I'd not lay any money on anything coming of it this time either.

Have you guys seen what happened to Nobel Prize winning scientist Tim Hunt? PZ Myers wrote about it on Pharyngula a couple of days ago, here:
http://freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/2015/06/14/the-nobel-is-not-a-get-out-of-jail-free-card/

During a speech at a seminar on women in science, Tim Hunt made the following quip:

“Let me tell you about my trouble with girls. Three things happen when they are in the lab. You fall in love with them, they fall in love with you, and when you criticise them, they cry”.

Within a day, Hunt, aged 72, was told to resign from the University College London, where he had a post, plus some other honorary positions. Personally I find this disappointing, perhaps even an outrage.

Apparently Hunt has a long history of encouraging women to go into science. No-one who has worked with him has a bad word to say about him. And, in fact, he met his wife while working with her in a lab. They fell in love there, and broke with the partners they were with at the time.

PZ Myers believes that it was right to get Hunt to resign. Something bad has happened to the world. :(

How bad depends on whether it was actually a 'quip' - active thread [Big outrage scandal: sexist scientist resigns! ]

8 pages in 5 days.

meh, old guy makes bad joke. News @ 11.

Sane people would go back to what they were doing. To the Pharyngulans though, this is world changing, and that requires lots of expletives and bad behaviour, because internet.

Sigh.
