It's still a Godwin, though.
Godwin isn't a fallacy.
It's still a Godwin, though.
I'm watching #metalgate with some interest and humor. If anyone has any remote inklings that metal itself, from the absolute very beginning wasn't socially conscious, then they may as well take the S and J out of their moniker forever
I'm betting the SJWs are going to find metal a much harder nut to crack due to having a large population of progressives so advanced that they make our current crop of female supremacists look so last milenia. That and the few rednecks and swamp rockers left in metal won't care one iota if they're called "misogynists"
I'm very skeptical that "metalgate" is actually a thing. (Note: naughty words at link.)
Hell, I know a fair number of "SJW" metalheads, and I'm a metalhead myself. (I was just at an Apocalyptica show last night.)
Well, I got no chuckles from your link. Seems like it's not a thing.
Also, Apocalyptica is metal? Don't get me wrong, I liked "I'm not Jesus", but I never thought of them as metal.

Metalgate? Is there some entertaining bit of Warrior stupidity I've somehow missed?
Saw this on some youtube comments and I think it says it all
"First they came for the Atheists, and I did not speak out,
Because I was not a Atheist.
Then they came for the Gamers, and I did not speak out,
Because I was not a Gamer.
Then they came for the Metal Heads, and I did not speak out,
Because I was not a Metal Head.
Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me."
I'm also pretty sure #metalgate isn't a thing, but that article was so full of straw, and then this gem:
And the idea of #metalgate ignores one very important fact about metal: lyrics mostly don’t matter to metalheads, it’s all about the music itself. Which further proves that the people writing this #metalgate stuff have at most a basic familiarity with metal; they’re not in metal culture so much as observers looking for a cause to latch onto.
lolwut. Someone tell Ozzy and Åkerfeldt.
I actually thought the article was pretty good. Other than the bit you quoted, which I agree is a stupid over-generalization. The article he was commenting on took an even stupider stance, which was that if you have the wrong type of lyrics then you aren't welcome in metal and should play a different style of music.
Why didn't he respond to original article that returnofkings' article used as a source (among with Sargon's video)?
He did not explain why metalgate isn't a thing, he just claimed it isn't. Also, most of that was a response to returnofkings article and disagreeing with stuff that had nothing to do with metalgate. Why didn't he respond to original article that returnofkings' article used as a source (among with Sargon's video)?
There's definite pattern of similar SJW outrage in articles mentioned (by Sargon, and in deathmetal.org), but these seem to be few and far between to be called a thing. The author in metalsucks did absolutely nothing to explain why #metalgate is or isn't a thing.
Ugh. Ridiculous metalhead posturing about what "true metal" is, and how wannabe metalheads are trying to take over the scene with socially conscious lyrics and different musical stylings. According to him, funk metal, metalcore, nu-metal, and "rap/rock" aren't real metal.![]()
Thanks for the heads up, dude. I'll watch out for the enemies of metal and keep my ears pure!
The original article would seem to suggest that "#metalgate" is exemplified by a quote from a "20 Best Metal Albums of 2014" article in which the author expresses that she/he does not like the influence of conservative values on metal and is glad that it's starting to become more socially liberal.
Metal is still dogged by the issues that arise from its deep-seated conservative values, but thanks to an increase in conversations about racism, politics, and feminism, those on the right side of history have gained solid ground
He did explain why it isn't a thing. See below:
"But my ultimate problem with #metalgate is that it’s entirely manufactured.
No one, or no group, is banding together to try and change metal in any one specific way — the threat is entirely imagined.
Certain social values enter the metalsphere simply because those values are spreading throughout society as a whole
— this idea that “SJWs” failed with #gamergate so they’re now moving on to a different cause is total bologna.
They’re entirely separate people!
There also certainly isn’t anyone coordinating a mass effort to inject metal with liberal values.
Just because someone wrote an editorial encouraging metalheads to stop using the word “faggot” doesn’t mean the music that “the average white man in the West Virginian coal mines” likes will go away tomorrow;
more than likely, both his music and the tunes favored by a vegan kid living in an artist loft in Bushwick paid for by his parents will continue to coexist in this world.
It’s also not really a new argument. People have been saying “get political correctness out of my metal!” for decades already, and, guess what, both non-PC and PC metal continue not only to exist, but to be robust.
