If I start loading the Italian version of Massey into a word processor just to count the "y's" even I'd have to admit that this case is over and settled.

Can getting a life be that far from it?

Just can't resist, Bill. You gave us a lecture on the use of "I" in the Italian language as the reason they use "I" at the end of his first name. With your characteristically sweeping motion you made the categorical statement that they don't use the "I", unless they are anal retentive.

Now is Massei anal retentive? He does spell Guede's first name Rudi.

But alas he spells Lumumba's` first name Diya not Patrick or Patrik or Diia, Ooops. And the Kerchers have "Y's" in their names i.e. Lye(?), Mary and Ashley not Lie, Mari and Ashlei.

So maybe Diya and Rudi are their legal names.

I categorically sweep this under the rug, unless another lecture bubbles up.

I just don't think this is a big deal.

Oh Bill it is such an overwhelming big deal it's up their with antidisestablishmentarianism.

If a German named Günther is convicted under the name Gunther here in the US would it be okay to refer to him as Gunther?

But this is exactly what the Italians are doing...

Rudy = Günther
Rudi = Gunther

Yes. It would be okay to refer to him as Gunther. If we were discussing a famous case about Gunther convicted in the US no one here would be insisting on the umlaut.

It isn't. It's just a needle to Grinder who demands accuracy from everyone but himself. :D

I have stated many a time that it doesn't matter to me what people call Rudi. I was asked why I use the Rudi spelling and I explained.

The rest of your snarky post is well snarky. Accurate enough for you?

Snarki surely;)

Hey, we are mostly on the same side (Amanda and Raff being innocent), can we get along?

Unfortunately, I probably know the answer

Ken you don't know what you are talking about. First of all West Seattle isn't around the corner from mom's house no matter how you define it.

????

Have you ever been to Seattle?

First of all, you're correct that Amanda lived with her friend Madison Paxton for 10 months in an apartment in downtown Seattle, which is close to the University of Washington, which isn't described as "West Seattle," so your above statement is nonsensical?

Google "Edda Mellas + Seattle" and one of the 1st hits is her tax record for her house, which is SW 37th Avenue Seattle, Wa. Google maps says the trip from downtown Seattle to Edda's house is 14 minutes, which is pretty much around the corner.

I enlisted in the Navy out of High School and was mostly stationed in San Diego, and I drove 2 hours to Los Angeles on many weekends, except when I was in Vietnam, or otherwise out to sea.

14 minutes is a hop, skip & a jump when visiting your mom & sister.

Secondly she wasn't living in a dorm on 12th N.E. when she threw a good-bye party in the rental house she had lived during that school year.

Don't forget your contention was the both girls had never lived away from home.

I now agree - give yourself a pat on the back.

No, no LJ. Italy's country code is "39". "00" is traditionally the number dialed first for International dialing. A lot of companies that do a lot of overseas business will list "00" just to remind people to add "00" at the beginning to reach an international line.

Ummm..... I know very well indeed that 39 is the Italy country code. I didn't write that 00 was the Italy country code. I wrote (correctly) that 00 is the international dialling code used in Italy for access to international numbers. And it was followed by 44, which is the country code for UK.

Different countries have different international dialling access codes. Most are 00. But some are different. For example, the international dialling code used in Kenya is 000. So, for example, to call the US from Kenya, you would have to dial "000 1....."

Let's go slow. You made a contention about black of African hairs being found as major reason the PLE were looking for a black. Now I don't agree that they were looking for a black and your own cites indicate that only a very few of a much larger number of hairs even appeared to be possible black hairs. Also your cite doesn't indicate when they even looked at the hairs.

Stefanoni testified that the 5 black hairs were probably Guede's hairs. Guede has distinctively kinky African hair.

In America that entire crime scene would have been processed in just a few days. While the Italians did go back later to spray luminol, and much, much later to look for the bra-clasp, I suspect as incompetent as they were, that they found the 5 kinky black hairs in Meredith's bedroom fairly early on.

I said that the woman reporting early on that she and her date were bumped into by a black man would have had a much bigger influence on the PLE than the alleged hairs.

That woman's report at having seen an African guy running up the stairs may have indeed reinforced the cops' running theory that they were looking for an African perp, but seeing a guy running up the stairs isn't that suspicious all by itself. I bound up stairs myself just for the exercise.

The cops focused in on an African suspect for two main reasons, the black kinky hairs they found in Meredith's bedroom, and they also likely had CCTV footage of an African guy lurking around that night.

BTW - if your witness came forward promptly, and if the cops suspected Lumumba early on, then it would have been a picture of Lumumba that they had showed that couple.

They didn't confirm Guede as the perp until Nov 16th, and if they showed the woman Guede's picture later, and she said Guede wasn't the guy she saw, then other than the fluke her claim may have added to the cops' other evidence that the perp was African, her eye-witness acct is just a footnote that is meaningless.

Now of course they didn't say it wasn't Rudi until...he was caught because...they didn't know what he looked like when they came forward. It may well not have been Rudi, but you see, that doesn't matter at all. It doesn't matter because they told the police a black was running in the vicinity of the cottage at a time when the murder could have been committed.

If you feel that your couple's acct of seeing an African guy bounding up the stairs, with nothing more than that, is what caused the police to focus in on only African perps early on, then you're entitled to your opinion.

No matter your theory of routes, or your belief in what Rudi looked like or anything else, a credible witness put a black there at the time. Conveniently a witness not in your favor become unreliable unlike those that give testimony months later that are in your favor, but she reported quickly IIRC AND the time was set by when they left the restaurant.

Since your couple obviously couldn't ID either Lumumba or Guede as the guy they saw around 10:30, why are we wasting time with this?

BTW – Guede was already in the vicinity of the garden where he chucked the phones around 10:00 pm, so he couldn't be back near the cottage at 10:30 pm, unless for some reason he had doubled back?

Witness says she saw a certain type running near the site and at a possible time, then police think maybe we should look for the same type.

If the police were only looking for an African perp based ONLY upon her testimony of seeing an African guy running up stairs, then the police would have had a serious case of tunnel-vision.

Why do you reject Stefanoni's testimony that she had found 5 hairs consistent with Guede in Meredith's bedroom?

Why do you disregard the CCTV footage, of which the police had lots (from at least 3 cameras), but they only released a few frames?

Grinder can and does drive us all crazy so I can appreciate your frustration. But the forum is much better with him demanding precision and accuracy. By the way,I don't think Amanda lived in a dorm. The party where she received the ticket was a house a few blocks away from the UW campus. It wasn't a dorm and normally I would say she could get into just as big a mess on the other side of Seattle as opposed to the other side of the Atlantic.

I'm sure Amanda still had a lot of growing to do but she still lived away from home before she went to italy. Concede that battle and move on.

I already issued my mea culpa before I read your recommendation to issue one.

I wonder if Grinder can issue a mea culpa since he makes more provable mistakes than I do?
