Chris Christy will resign?

No.

There is absolutely nothing which either the Republicans or the Libertarians have in common with Freemen on the Land. There is unequivocally no characteristic or measurement in which one can say "The FotL are just a tad more this way than the Republican Party."

Tend to agree. Being selfish, vile and corrupt is nothing like living in Cloud Cuckoo land.

Christie already tried his "Hail Mary" play by nominating his own chief of staff for the job of state attorney general. That has been blocked so his next move will be a jurisdictional motion to gain control of the investigation. That is an obvious conflict of interest so it will probably go to the New Jersey state supreme court.

You can believe it if you like but it isn't possible. Christie is well known to have a tight rein on anything that goes on in his office. Other mayors have stated that it isn't possible that he didn't know. But, you can keep hoping and wishing.

Meanwhile, 20 new subpoenas are being sent out tonight. You'll hear about them in more detail tomorrow.

I'm not hoping and wishing anything. I don't particularly like Christie, I think he's a bully and a phony. I'm just saying it is plausible that he didn't know about it beforehand. As in, "Let's surprise the boss and get some revenge on the mayor of Fort Lee. We know he'd approve but let's not tell him, in case somehow this blows up." It's also very plausible that Christie knew exactly what went on. Personally, I will wait for the investigation to see what really happened.

This whole thing may stop Christie from running for President and that would have been interesting for the entertainment value. He is incredibly thin-skinned and it would have been enjoyable to watch him implode when he is attacked by other Republicans.

I guess when I read the text messages that say, "time for traffic problems" and "got it" as the reply, common sense states that they had planned it and were waiting for approval from someone. Whether that be the aid telling Christie, "The 'project' has been planned" and Christie says, "Don't want to know about it, just make stuff happen" or any other scenario. It would seem that approval was needed and given.

Hate to say it, but this is the way the game is played in New Jersey,by both parties.

And I suspect the rules are similair in Illinois.

We've mostly sent to jail all those in Illinois who have tried stuff like this.

Including two governors.

Well, look at the history of Newark, Jersey City, Woodbridge town governments, and people like Michael Imbriani and Nicholas Bissell, if you want a feel for some NJ politics.

Let's just assume this is true. The problem is that this blockage went on for several days and it is impossible that Christie did not know about it after the first day. So, Christie knew about it and condoned it. There is no other possibility.

I agree with this completely; the idea that Christie was a serious contender for the presidency is fantasy. Rand Paul is another fantasy.

Not according to the mayors in NJ. They keep saying that this was new with Christie.

Based on what? It has been stated that it is worse than this in Florida.

Sure, and probably many other places and will continue as long as people hand wave it away like this.
It isn't being hand waved away any where important, at least not yet.
From my point of view anyone involved should suffer the consequences but there is no real evidence that Christie was involved. If there isn't he will probably suffer somewhat politically. Rightfully so if he fostered an environment where this behavior was not viewed as bad.

Do you really think the govenor of a state would have time to be concerned about something like this at an early stage. Every day in Jersy or New York there backups and problems at different roads why we he have any reason to suspect foul play.

He probably knew about the traffic backup (which was only on the one entrance to the bridge. My understanding is the main thourougfare I-95 was not impacted) pretty early and assumed it was exactly what he was told.

TPM is killing it.

David Wildstein is looking for a deal.

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/wildstein-story-to-tell-immunity

An attorney for David Wildstein, one of the men at the center of the investigation into last September's lane closures on the George Washington Bridge, said his client has a "story to tell" if granted immunity from state and federal prosecution. Alan Zegas told the Wall Street Journal Friday that Wildstein wants to testify before one of the legislative committees investigating the closures.

"There is a story to tell," Zegas said. "He would be happy to talk about all he knows."

Also, one of the GOPers who's involved in the investigation just happens to be involved in the scandal.

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/muckraker/christie-wildstein-otoole

One of the key New Jersey Democrats behind the investigation of the closures told TPM on Friday that "O'Toole" was almost certainly New Jersey state Sen. Kevin O'Toole (R) -- a Christie ally who by day is a name partner at a New Jersey-based law firm which describes its lawyers as "experts in crisis management." A further complication: O'Toole was named this week to a new state Senate committee tasked with investigating the lane closures.

"I would assume from reading that email that it was Sen. O'Toole that he spoke with," New Jersey Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg (D), who is leading the committee, told TPM. "If that is so, I assume that Sen. O'Toole will clear up that there will be no conflict to his serving on the committee."

And finally, even Christie's new lawyer is wrapped up in conflicts of interest.

Officials at the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey are worried the law firm retained by the administration of Gov. Chris Christie (R) as it faces two investigations into the lane closures on the George Washington Bridge has a conflict of interest. According to a report published by the Bergen Record Friday, Port Authority officials plan to outline these concerns in a letter to the firm, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP.

The potential conflict of interest centers around the fact the firm represents the Port Authority, which oversees the bridge, in a lawsuit brought by the American Automobile Association over toll hikes instituted by the agency in 2011. Last September's lane closures, which some Democrats have alleged were ordered by Christie's allies in an effort to retaliate against a local mayor, have been discussed in the AAA lawsuit. The closures led to days of gridlock in Fort Lee, N.J.

What?!

I'm gone from the thread for a few days and look what happens. Wow.

Got any links on that?

You're right. Just because it happens in other places, we should ignore it in NJ

Oh my. If there's actual evidence (emails, etc) to hold up the Hoboken Mayor's story, then there is real trouble afoot for Christie. The kind of trouble which can land you in jail.

ETA: And I don't say this lightly. Our last governor here in IL is doing time for less.

It's a RICO case. Conspirators beware -- Save your skin; finger the boss.
