Chris Christy will resign?

If Sanford can come back and win an office in South Carolina, Christie can weather this. The thing about Republicans is, they are very forgiving of other Republicans.

Exactly.

All Sanford did was cheat on his wife and lie about it. Why make a big deal out of that. It's not like it's an impeachable offense or anything.

Oh ... wait. ...

And I'm quite certain that Hillary compiled her enemies' list in 2008 from nothing but the purest motives. She probably needed the list as a compilation of all the people she had to make a harder effort to help out.

Because she wouldn't have mean and nasty motives. She's not a Republicker.

Like Richard Nixon, who made "enemies list" part of the public lexicon?

I'm sorry, did someone say that Hillary having an enemies list was a good thing?

Clinton campaign aides kept a detailed list ...

...

The book says aides ranked them ...

...

Clinton aides “would joke about the fates of folks who they felt had betrayed them.

You're quite certain who compiled a list?

Where did you find that in the article you cited?

So what you're saying is that Hillary shouldn't be blamed for something her aides did? But Christie, on the other hand, should be blamed for something his aides did.

Clinton's aides made a list. Christie's aides actively punished the populations of areas that were represented by politicians who failed to endorse Christie.

I find it amusing when people still hold up Christie as potentially being able to win a presidential election. Even before this scandal, Christie had no chance of winning. You can't take his popularity in New Jersey and extrapolate that to the whole country. Christie is hamstrung by his lack of debating skills and his thin skin. He has never had to endure a real campaign or the kind of close scrutiny that a national campaign brings. You can fantasize all you want but Christie is not equal to the task. Is it possible that someone could give him a crash course in public presentation and debate? Perhaps it's vaguely possible but it doesn't fit with Christie's personality. In fact, Christie's over-confidence is his main attraction to Republican voters.

But now you do have scandals and half of his staff is gone and this is only over the bridge. You also have the commercial which seemed to be a campaign ad paid for with public money. He might very well have to pay that back. You have an investigation into the relief money disbursement with clear evidence that he did ignore towns with mayors he didn't like. Then you have his own relief fund and he'll probably end up having to account for that. Then you have his interference with a criminal case for a friend of his.

Christie was hoping to stall the investigation until the subpoena power of the committee expired. He gave his two hour rambling no-information speech as a last-ditch smoke screen to get him past the deadline because he was certain the the new, Republican speaker of the house would not authorize more subpoena authority. But, that didn't happen, the speaker is not quashing this. You have two state investigations, a civil action, and a federal investigation. The only way this wouldn't turn up something is if Christie were completely innocent and we all know that is not the case.

Suggesting that Christie can weather this is a bit naive. Christie is a walking corpse whether he realizes or not. There is no question of running for the presidency, there is no question of running for the senate, there is no question of retaining his governorship. The only real question for Christie is if he will serve jail time and if he will be disbarred. Maybe there is a job for him on Fox.

Are you suggesting the Governor's aides took it on themselves to shut down the world's busiest bridge for a week?

?? That's what Christie is suggesting.

[pedant]And it's local access lanes to the bridge, not the bridge itself, that was closed.[/pedant]

Sure, now that he's been painted into a corner. This week. Just wait till the rats start making deals.

True. Regardless, it was not something "aides" would have initiated on their own. It was organized, supervised and covered up. Christie may not have specifically said "shut down three of four lanes" but he most assuredly gave the green light for the project.

Right and maybe his aids also interfered with a criminal case, and his aids decided to cut out mayors who didn't support Christie from aid. Basically, what you would end up with is the claim that Christie has been on vacation since he took office.

I'm kind of hoping Christy will be tried and convicted rather than resign - to help fuel the destructive gatherings that are the republicker/freemen-on-the land butt fests selection process lately

Would you explain how the Freemen on the Land stuff is related to the Republican selection process?

...or to Christie or anything else in this thread. I agree with you; it has nothing to do with this conversation.

If and when the aides say that Christie knew about it, then I believe it. I'm not saying that it's not possible that he knew about it, just that it is plausible that they cooked up this scheme on their own and did not tell Christie about it to protect him because of exactly what has happened. I also believe it plausible that Christie fostered an environment of revenge that made this all possible.

It isn't except to the point that the FOL like the Libertarians are just a tad more that way than the republickers. Want to see them all reined in. Heavily. With prejudice.

You can believe it if you like but it isn't possible. Christie is well known to have a tight rein on anything that goes on in his office. Other mayors have stated that it isn't possible that he didn't know. But, you can keep hoping and wishing.

Meanwhile, 20 new subpoenas are being sent out tonight. You'll hear about them in more detail tomorrow.

No.

There is absolutely nothing which either the Republicans or the Libertarians have in common with Freemen on the Land. There is unequivocally no characteristic or measurement in which one can say "The FotL are just a tad more this way than the Republican Party."
