Cont: Cancel culture IRL Part 2

Note the silence from that kind of people when it was the Christian Right who was trying, for years and quite fervently, to "cancel" Rowling. It only became a problem when "woke" people did it.

Well yeah. ALL of this requires to us to just pretend to not notice that as recently as last year churches weren't organizing book burnings of Harry Potter because it was Satanic and not one single one of the "OMG Cancel Culture" people on this board starting a thread about how worrying it was.

Funny... that.

I'd ask them directly why they didn't care about it then but I will not get an honest or coherent answer.

Didn't know about it? I mean, you obviously posted about it and that post got missed so if you'd be so kind as to link back to that post so we can all have a laugh at the retarded Christians who burned their Potter, Twilight books along with whatever other "demonic" crap they had lying around in their basements.

Yeah sure they just didn't notice. I totally think that's a valid reason. Look at how seriously I'm taking it.

So I take it we have no ling to a post? Pity that. So you just sat on that story until just the right moment?

After all, I hate to think someone just typed Harry Potter book burning into Google, ran with the first story that came up then offered that up as some sort of proof that ITT cancel culture critics aren't working hard enough. That would be, well, you know...

I'm asking you why you didn't wither start a thread or at least post it to this thread considering you're using it to try and make some sort of point about people "pretending not to notice" and not starting a thread or posting the book burning story to this one?

Are you sure about that?

Hats off, that must have been a lot of work trawling back through this forum circa 1999-20007, when the pissed off Christians were trying to cancel Rowling, and looking for who posted what an when then comparing the results to the posters on this thread.

Don't forget the Muslims, they were none too happy about the Potter books either.

I wasn't talking about this forum or any forum posters.

I'm talking about all the public figures who are crying bitter tears about cancel culture and how terrible society has become now that "woke" people want to cancel poor little JK Rowling.

I have never heard them include the Right's long campaign against Rowling included in those rants.

If you have criticised both, then kudos to you. But I never meant to imply you or anyone else posting here in the first place.

Why the **** would I start a thread about something I don't care about?

I'm asking why the people who are screeching about J.K. Rowling being "canceling" for her transphobic views were screeching back when it was the Right canceling her for being Satanic.

Are you really surprised of hypocrisy from the right???

The Christian Right and the "woke" are merely two sides of the same coin: low empathy puritans who believe those guilty of "wrongthink" should be cancelled and deplatformed and not available for anybody else to enjoy either. These two sides don't appear to be able to recognise their mirror image, though, making their hypocrisy and virtue signalling so nauseating.

I don't know what silence you're referring to here. I, and I'm sure most sceptics, have always condemned (or laughed) at both of them.

No, not for a long time. I'm just trying to figure out what exactly I'm being accused of as if me NOT starting a thread for a topic I don't care about is somehow me laying a trap or something.

I certainly remember there being push back against Christians freaking out about Potter however that's going back to social media in it's infancy days. That Harry Potter vs The Pissed Off Christians idea was one I stole from a mock book cover I downloaded circa 2004, I've since lost it and can't find it online (again)

Oh, so it's not a criticism of cancel culture critics then? Then what pray tell, was your point? That everybody just rolled over and put all four paws in the air while the Christians were going after Rowling?

There certainly was pushback. And ridicule.

But the people seeing cancel culture nowadays were absent from that pushback, and don't mention this long crusade against Rowling when they are on their rants about cancel culture.

We don't know if they were absent or not? We don't know who they were/are or where they were posting. I remember ridiculing the Christians on some format that's long since faded into oblivion eg. Myspace, Tribe.net. Twitter didn't show up until 2006, everybody was making Facebook pages for their pets in 2005, smartphones (and smartphone addiction) didn't really catch on until the iPhone in 2007.

So we could mention this crusade against Rowling as a historical note and include any recent right wing attacks against her but they're vastly overshadowed by today's attacks and considering we're discussing current events, that's what gets all the attention. As a for instance, I'm not getting very much when I go agooglin' for Christian criticisms of Hogwarts Legacy.

Three pages into a search and all I'm getting is this, What Would Jesus Do with Harry Potter? It looks like, nowadays, he'd probably read it.

People other than the producers of The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling podcast, right?

So far, they've done a fairly decent job of showing the similarities between the right-wing cancellation efforts and the more recent (and arguably more potent) left-wing efforts.

Are they crying about cancel culture?

The left-wing efforts are more potent because her books were never popular with closed minded bigots.
