I'm curious, do you actually have any evidence that people bought Rowling's books just to burn them?

Do you even have any evidence that people are burning Rowling's books? Other than a performative TikTok?

Or is this just one of those things where you've heard they are, and you've assumed they are, because it's "common sense", and we're ignoring that "common sense" only means it agrees with your preconceived ideas?
 
There's enough evil people being proudly evil that it's impossible to worry about good people being proudly good without an ulterior motive.

If you complain about "Virtue Signaling" once without complaining about "Vice Signaling" at least a 1,000 times, your words don't matter.

I'm not going to say nobody is doing it because it's a big world full of stupid people and anything is possible, but whenever an online trend of people destroying stuff actually happens its always Conservatives doing it to tweak the libs.

I have to disagree. There are a great many writers I enjoy whose politics I don't agree with.
BTW, so far I have not seen much support for Adams even from the usual susupects. (Yeah, there is Musk but Musk will do ANYTHING for a headline".) Guess Adams is just a bit too blatent even for them. It's not they don't agree, it is just that in the words of Bart Simpson Adams was way too obvious, dude.

You know, it might be that Rowling just never stopped working on HP. She's not writing books, but she is constantly tweaking and expanding lore on the website. It might be different if was a story that was easier to disassociate from her BS, but she's always kinda right there with it.

But don't worry, I'm sure the people so concerned about 'cancel culture' and especially academic freedoms will be along to say how the right is out of control and...lmao no, of course not. Even if they did, they won't do anything to get anyone fired...which means they'll do nothing at all.

EDIT: GOP taking more notes from Orban's path to autocracy. Cancel and capture anything where facts are given primacy and thus can prove them wrong. Courts, academics, sciences.

The really messed up thing is that when these policies actually start being implemented they'll say we can't use them saying they were going to do it as evidence it's what they're doing. They'll call it 'political'.

For those in the in group, the ones who can acceptably cancel, it isn't bad unless they have their statements in an affidavit with a notary public witness. Not even then if it's Intelligent Design.

"Cancel Cultureists" (and that includes those here in this thread) are clearly only interested in screaming "cancel culture" when its a racist, a bigot, a homophobe, a transphobe, a genderphobe or some other douchebag member of the political right who is being held to account.

Note the silence from that kind of people when it was the Christian Right who was trying, for years and quite fervently, to "cancel" Rowling. It only became a problem when "woke" people did it.

Hats off, that must have been a lot of work trawling back through this forum circa 1999-20007, when the pissed off Christians were trying to cancel Rowling, and looking for who posted what an when then comparing the results to the posters on this thread.

Don't forget the Muslims, they were none too happy about the Potter books either.
 
In other(topical) cancel culture news, a brouhaha has erupted on social media over Hershey’s Canada’s International Women’s Day campaign due to the inclusion of a transwoman. I'd suggest going out and loading up on Hershey's chocolate however since it's already been established that nobody with a functioning moral compass eat's chocolate, notably Hershey's due to them trying to poison us with lead and cadmium, that would be pointless.

First time I took my son to a Comic-Con in Tampa there was a huge crowd of idiots at one entrance screaming about everyone liking Potter. It was a gateway to hell and real-life witchcraft.

To be fair, they also shouted about comics because the only real superhero is Jeebus.

They were absolutely hilarious. My then twelve-year-old could not stop laughing at the right wing morons.
