There is an old saying " you are what you think you are " so if you believe you are a soulless slave in a material world , thats what you are .
Is that from 'Old Nutbar's Book of Idiot Platitudes'?
No, it's a regular one amongst new-agers, and although it initially starts as a positive life-force thing, it is often rolled out to explain to people why the remote reiki, hands-on-healing, distance praying, etc is not making a difference to their illnesses. You see, it is not the fault of the 'healer' you don't get better, it is because "you are what you think you are" and so you are re-enforcing negatives, and therefore preventing the healing from occurring.
It's a line of thought I particularly loathe.
