Bumper sticker. . .(shudder)

You're wrong. Our biggest concern should be, "How can I use the time and gifts that I possess to leave this world in a better state than when I found it?" Why are you so concerned with what is going to happen? Once you enter eternity, you'll be beyond caring. Is this why our world is currently deteriorating faster than it should be? That the faithful are more concerned with their harps and halos and platoon of virgins, than with our polluted atmosphere, starving brethren, and terminally ill? This is why I find the "faithful" so infuriating. You've got something "better" to look forward to, so you disregard what you HAVE here and now, and your responsibilities to your home. (sigh) Cover the world and subdue it, huh? How's that working out for you? I'm sorry, but I had a small glimmer of hope that you really cared, but apparently all you care about is salvation, and how you can convince us to join you. I am...disappointed that your mind is closed to us. :'( Forgive her...for she knows not what she does...

Nominated.

I've tried, and it is a futile exercise. There are none so blind as they who will not see.
Not a problem, I'm plodding, dull-witted, and persistent. =^_^= I'll keep trying despite the low likelihood of success.

Kathy doesn't think for herself. Her only answer to questions is to post links to fringe books that she is "reading". Not books she's read, but that she is "reading". Seems she never finishes them :boggled: She also regurgitates the crap that she hears from other people, but since she doesn't understand what it means, she can't put her own thoughts into it. She is no different that the people of Jonestown: An unthinking sheep.

Just because I choose not to complicate the heck out of everything does not mean I don't think. And don't even compare my faith to something like a cult.

I take God at His word and that's a whole lot more ahead of the game than most of you will ever seem to be. Sorry, but I hope all you guys will all come to a point in your own life where you will choose to believe God's word is truth!

A life without God is no life at all!

How the heck do you think christianity got started? It was a minority cult that caught on.

Oy vey, how many times.

Belief is not a matter of choice.

Get that through your head. Please stop telling us that we need to choose to believe. We can't. Even according to you God chooses who will believe in him. At least, you keep saying that you hope that God will open our hearts. So which is it KK? Do we have a choice? Or does God decide who should or shouldn't believe? Please make up your mind once and for all.

Difficult to tell from your posts. You don't have to complicate anything. Just respond as if you are not simply regurgitating propaganda.

And don't even compare my faith to something like a cult.
If the shoe fits.

I take God at His word and that's a whole lot more ahead of the game than most of you will ever seem to be.
And what "word" is that?

Sorry, but I hope all you guys will all come to a point in your own life where you will choose to believe God's word is truth!
I just hope that some day you will come down from your self righteous high horse.

A life without God is no life at all!
Then you have no life at all.

Forgive me ignorance, but I DID notice that nominate button. Pray tell what does it do, exactly? And, I'd like to thank the Academy for their consideration. . .(music swells)
It takes you to the language award thread and there quotes the post you nominate, also giving you the opportunity to say why you're nominating it.

Fine, don't want us to compare your cult to a cult? Then don't present your dogma as evidence of a higher being. We will not be swayed by anecdotal evidence, as you will not be swayed by reasonable argument.

Hey just to get back on topic, I saw a sweet bumper sticker over the weekend...I think it was my Labrador is smarter than your honor student. Arf arf!

Oh yeah? Well, "My Juvenile Deliquent had sex with your Honor Student" :D Actually, that's not true, I don't have any children. (couldn't resist, it's one of my fav. stickers)

I didn't compare it to a cult. It is a cult.
There are various definitions
1 : formal religious veneration: Worship
2 : a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents
3 : a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also : its body of adherents
4 : a system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator <health cults>
5 a : great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad b : the object of such devotion c : a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion
So by definitions 3 and 5, it could be argued that Christianity is not a cult, mostly because of the number of its members. It satisfies every other requirement.

Kathy, you're back! I was hoping your little joke about sushi wasn't just to distract me while you ran away or changed the subject. So, in all seriousness, how about you answer my last questions?

So as to your question of why is Christ the only way, because God himself said so.

So God tied his own hands, limited his own mercy, decided there was only one way to get into heaven? Why would he do that? And why can't he change his mind now?

And since the beginning of time I guess it was all decided what God would have to do to try to save us.

How can an all-powerful being "try" anything? Either he does something or he chooses not to.

And what do you mean by "it was all decided"? Was it not God who decided the rules of the game? Does he answer to more powerful uber-gods? And if it was god, I ask again why would he tie his own hands like that? You almost make it sound like human salvation is some kind of cosmic video game, and Jehovah deliberately gave himself a handicap to make it more challenging.

May I answer them?

-Elliot

You can do all things through Christ, huh? Feel up to a little demonstration?

Surely you have more faith than a grain of mustard seed, kathy? You should be able to toss around two or three mountains, easy.

Go ahead, we're waiting. . .

:popcorn1

Belief can't move mountains, but it can persuade others that you can. I think that is a horrible misquote of Terry Pratchett.

Does it ever explain why the mustard seeds need to move a mountain?

He...he doesn't mean that LITERALLY, you know, 'cause I did that once, and whew...was it a PAIN! Now I have people doing the knocking out for me. .. :)

Uh yeah... it was one-a-them, whatchacallit, figure of speech.

Good luck answering my questions, Elliot. Break a leg.*
