The tone of the entire subforum is degenerating rapidly.

You clearly have a wide experience of forums.

Bananaman.

edit: that sounded like a petty jibe. Didn't mean it to. I love your posts, TAM. Cor now I sound like a crawler. Anyway...

The real point I'm trying to address is that forums go up and down like a barometer. They are only as good as the people who write on them, and checking your post count, TAM, I conclude you've seen the odd up and down and sideways lurch on boards yourself.

Different people add different qualities to a board. My girlfriend hosts a website and runs a forum, not a big one, but occasionally busy enough for her to have to send the mods in. Actually she usually does it herself, but she hates banning or suspending people. She's lucky though. It's not exactly JREF size.

Um, I appear to have drifted off there.

Yes, so, I don't approve of saying things are going downhill. That's it in a nutshell,
and I don't mean it aggressively.

Bananaman,

I think (hard to tell these days) that you are being saracastic.

I think you are trying to imply that by the standard of "internet forums" the JREF forum is well above par in terms of behavior etc...

That may be the case, and for most of the 3 years that I have been here, even the 9/11 subforum has been, for the most part civil.

Have you had a look at the now 5 page thread started by NagP?

http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140514

Chillzero just had to close it for moderation review...

I dunno why I stay here sometimes. Perhaps because sometimes we really have good discussions on things. Maybe because sometimes I to like to mouth off in annoyance at the latest knobhead truther.

I just know that when I came here this morning, I could find very little on the forum that I found interesting, or even tolerable.

Yah, you are right, I have seen several swings in this website. However, the overall trend over the last 3 years has been downward. That said, when it gets bad here, i tend to vent about it a little.

Most of it, I believe, is due to (1) No new material, and hence little to talk about productively/constructively, and (2) an influx of truthers who want to do nothing more than antagonize and bait people into arguments. These truthers, I think, want to actually bring down the forum.

It was contemplated by the administrators of this forum, a while ago IIRC, to close the 9/11 CT subforum for good. I am glad they did not, despite the recent downturn, because I think this is what many of the persistent truthers here want.

So the debunkers share no responsibility? The only time they acted poorly is when they are being taunted by a Twoofie? C'mon TAM, you know that's not a fair way to describe it. We're all responsible for our behavior. No one can be taunted into acting childish or breaking the rules.

But to the point. I was wondering what happened to this project since I think it would be very interesting to find out what a Gravy approved thread would be. And I'm curious what could have caused such a huge project to die such a quick death.

Yes, for sure the debunkers bare some responsibility. It is the reason why I post these reflective posts. I know my words mean nothing to the truthers. Oh and by the way, if no one could be successfully taunted, then why would anyone try it? Taunting is done because it so frequently works.

Oh and concerning your remarks on the project, it is not Gravy approved. Many of us (20 or so) took pages of the archives and went through them. I myself did one set of 250 threads.

I know taunting works. I'm just saying that no one can force you to take the bait.
