Bring Out Our Dead! Pitch in to create a 9/11 CT Best Thread Index!

When I read the first line of your post I said to myself, "Who is this madman?" Ah, one of the League of Gentleperson Taggers is amongst us! That's nice. Thanks for the offer, the info, and the advice.

Well, I originally volunteered to tag the whole CT forum. So I must be mad!

ETA: I don't need to put a comma after the last tag, do I?

There's no need to put a comma after the last tag. But it doesn't matter if you do. The software will just remove it.

I barked out a laugh so hard at this that it startled the hell out of my cat, which dug its claws deeply into my leg as it jumped off my lap. I'll probably die of tetanus, thanks to you.

You'd better give me another 250 old CT threads to read through as a punishment, then.

Dave

I think it would be nice if we somehow tied the tags we're adding to your categories. Perhaps a simple "Gravy Cat #" tag?

This, combined with the "Best of 911" tag, seems like an efficient way to do things.

For a moment there I wondered what Gravy's cat had to do with the tagging. :p

Some standardised tags would be helpful, especially for the more technical issues like aviation and structural engineering. In the old days there used to be a tag cloud at the bottom of each sub-forum that was somewhat useful, but now the only one I can find is forum-wide.

Hi indexers.

I need to address a few issues that have come up.

1) Be mindful of newcomers and people using search engines (and my editing time!) when making thread descriptions. Titles like "Boloboffin: the enhanced experience" and "Help me answer this.... truther question" (which I assume are the forum titles) don't tell the reader what the thread or post is about.

Good title: BBC and WTC 7 on 9/11: confusion or NWO blunder?

2) In trying to be helpful, some people have gone in the opposite direction and been too descriptive. I asked for the descriptions to be short because in the online version they're going to be combined with the date, number of pages, thread starter's name, and referrer's name, like so:

New mass and potential energy calculation for WTC1–7/17/07–02–GregoryUrich–Sparky

I want each link to fit on one line of a forum page. It's usually easy to cut down a thread title while remaining descriptive:

Long: Journey through the CT world, How I went from OCT to CT back to OCT, and why.

Better: How I changed from skeptic to conspiracist and back.
(Keep in mind that many or most people won't know what OCT and CT mean, although I'll have a glossary for those reading the index from the start).

Long: CD Impossible: Facts. OP is an extensive discussion of explosives, and why they couldn't be used at WTC7, with links to reference sites

Better: WTC controlled demolition impossible: facts.
–>(Remaining description can be put in the column to the right of the links. It'll stay there on the spreadsheet.)

3) Please be sure personal and forum names are spelled and formatted correctly. :(

4) Each thread should have keywords/tags in that column. When you see a keeper thread that's untagged, please put an asterisk in that column and enter your own tags after it, e.g. *WTC 7 witness, Jane Doe, Silverstein, pull it, Daniel Nigro. Don't worry about the tags like "Best of" that have been discussed above. I'll add those globally.

5) In the links column, enter the link to the forum thread or post, not to the archive thread. The archive isn't in a comprehensible format.

6) Some people have helped out by making the thread links clickable hyperlinks. I appreciate that, but please don't alter the URL's appearance by overlaying descriptive text, so I have to change those back to plain old http://....

ETA 7) I didn't mention this before, but I'd prefer the page numbers to be in 00 format. And rather than putting a P in that column to denote a post rather than a thread, put the P (and only a P) in the page number column. I dunno why I didn't think of that before.

If you have any questions, please ask. I'm home today. You may save me hours of slaving over a hot keyboard! :)

Thanks,
Mark

Hey, Gravy, I'll take a page. It might be a week or so before I end up finishing it, but I'll do one.
Great. It's on its way.

I'll give you the rest of the pdoh sockpuppet threads.

Yes, I'm doing that, without the Gravy part. AZCat would be more appropriate.

In a surge of enthusiasm I've been using an asterisk where there were existing, but insufficient, tags. Is that OK? I didn't see how it would present problems for the taggers but then again I'm not the one who will be doing it.

Did you mean to write "page number column" where I highlighted? Because I though the P was to go in the "P" column (I left the page number column blank where I had a post rather than a thread).

Sure, the more tags the merrier, and the asterisk is the only way Gaspode will know they need to be added.

pgs column, I should have said. Number of pages in the thread. You're doing it the way I initially intended, but there's no need for the P column. The P for post can go in the pgs column where you're now leaving it blank.

Meh. I had been putting in the page number on which the single post could be found. I do not have too many threads listed, so it is no problem to go change that.

One comment on the # Pages column, I assume this is based on the vBulleting default of 40 posts per page. For those who prefer to use other settings (which are available from the User Control Panel), their page count may not match those in the spreadsheets.

Just change it to a P. Sorry if I was unclear.

Yes, I gave instructions for using the default setting in the OP. ;)

OK, assignment completed and handed in. I'm going out to play now. :)

Mark, if there are any pages left I can manage another one over the next few days.

And I'd just like to say that I'm prepared to strangle anyone who starts another bloody thread about
nothing. :)

I was going to mention that ... the other thing I thought was that nothing's going to be marked with a * and a ?, is it? So you could have a single column for that.

Actually I did have one marked with both: a favorite thread that was a bit of an oddball and the referrer wanted my opinion on it (could have entered both in one column, of course).

So far 8 pages have been turned in. I haven't started on mine, but I did pull 50 individual posts from the critical thinking/logic/conspirator motive page of my website. I'm caught up with my editing and have 237 links formatted to go online.

It's looking like the finished index will be somewhere between 750 and 900 links, plus I'm going to clean up the stickied clutter at the top of this forum by adding it to this project (outside debunking resources, editorials, etc.). We'll wind up with one stickied resources thread with a single table of contents.

I probably posted this in the wrong thread - sorry about that. I haven't had much time for reading / posting lately and I guess I either missed this thread or confused the two.

I would like to nominate this thread for inclusion in any 'best of' lists:

http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=2191861#post2191861

For a long time it existed in my signature as:

If that was insurance fraud, it was the single stupidest insurance fraud in the history of ever. -- JonnyFive

I was reminded today when reading one of the AAH threads on Building 7, some people need to be reminded just how laughable the insurance fraud angle is, and why. I think it would be good to have it featured prominently so it's easy for new people to find.

I've had to take a few days off from this, as I was hosting visitors and then travelling this weekend, but I expect to get the rest done tonight. Just so you know!

I've been away from the forum for a while, so I didn't see this thread until now. I'll take a page if there are any left that need doing.

Good to see you, maccy! Yes, there's one page left. I've been waiting for a newcomer, since several people have already taken two pages. I'll PM you the info. Please read through this thread if you haven't already, particularly post 86. Thanks!

Still working on mine. Getting in a few threads per evening. Tough slogging through some of the stuff.

TAM:)
