Hi indexers.
I need to address a few issues that have come up.
1) Be mindful of newcomers and people using search engines (and my editing time!) when making thread descriptions. Titles like "Boloboffin: the enhanced experience" and "Help me answer this.... truther question" (which I assume are the forum titles) don't tell the reader what the thread or post is about.
Good title: BBC and WTC 7 on 9/11: confusion or NWO blunder?
2) In trying to be helpful, some people have gone in the opposite direction and been too descriptive. I asked for the descriptions to be short because in the online version they're going to be combined with the date, number of pages, thread starter's name, and referrer's name, like so:
New mass and potential energy calculation for WTC1–7/17/07–02–GregoryUrich–Sparky
I want each link to fit on one line of a forum page. It's usually easy to cut down a thread title while remaining descriptive:
Long: Journey through the CT world, How I went from OCT to CT back to OCT, and why.
Better: How I changed from skeptic to conspiracist and back.
(Keep in mind that many or most people won't know what OCT and CT mean, although I'll have a glossary for those reading the index from the start).
Long: CD Impossible: Facts. OP is an extensive discussion of explosives, and why they couldn't be used at WTC7, with links to reference sites
Better: WTC controlled demolition impossible: facts.
–>(Remaining description can be put in the column to the right of the links. It'll stay there on the spreadsheet.)
3) Please be sure personal and forum names are spelled and formatted correctly.
4) Each thread should have keywords/tags in that column. When you see a keeper thread that's untagged, please put an asterisk in that column and enter your own tags after it, e.g. *WTC 7 witness, Jane Doe, Silverstein, pull it, Daniel Nigro. Don't worry about the tags like "Best of" that have been discussed above. I'll add those globally.
5) In the links column, enter the link to the forum thread or post, not to the archive thread. The archive isn't in a comprehensible format.
6) Some people have helped out by making the thread links clickable hyperlinks. I appreciate that, but please don't alter the URL's appearance by overlaying descriptive text, so I have to change those back to plain old
http://....
ETA
7) I didn't mention this before, but I'd prefer the page numbers to be in 00 format. And rather than putting a P in that column to denote a post rather than a thread, put the P (and only a P) in the page number column. I dunno why I didn't think of that before.
If you have any questions, please ask. I'm home today. You may save me hours of slaving over a hot keyboard!
Thanks,
Mark
