Brexit: the referendum

Will be bad for Australia.Your exports will be dearer and the amount will logically fall.

The best estimate of UK GDP is a 2% fall through Brexit, so selling them more is highly unlikely.

Let's have a break.
We've had enough of the makey-uppy for now.

Give us a bit of time, we are shocked.

The pound has just hit its lowest level since 1985. Brexit has almost certainly won, and we're screwed. Well done, you economically illiterate morons who voted leave. :(

While I agree on leaving not being good please be a little bit more respectful of the leaver. The may have been influenced by the demagogic rhetoric of leave but most of them are not moron.

I woke about an hour ago and listened to the very depressing news that the ghastly Farrage has made a triumphal sort of speech. In my opinion, many leavers have voted on superficial issues. I am not happy about it.

I see there are many pages of posts, but I'll read those when I return from my holiday.

Lionking: I have put your phone number in my bag and will phone if possible.

Did the referendum include any kind of timetable for action? Could Britain remain a member of the EU for two years? Five years? 10 years? Will every UK trade agreement have to be renegotiated with everybody, or could they just say "We'll keep doing what we've been doing?" Could Britain say "We're leaving slowly," and the EU say, "No, you're out today! Bring your passport if you wanna ride the Eurostar!" Etc. What does this all mean in practical terms?

My assumption is that a leave notice would be given "relatively" rapidely, possibly after a change of PM. I would be utterly untenable politically to shift the decision to leave for years afterward when the vox populi , however one think is correct or wrong, has been loud enough for a leave.

After that UK would have 2 year to negotiate with individuals states (not the union !) and then it's out no matter what (barring prolongation given at unanimity by members).

But in the interim two years nothing will happen really much.
PS: we are already showing passport to go to britain in the eurostar. What we don't need is a visa. And i expect that to stay if UK want to have anything to do economically with the union.

I'm so sorry for you. I have a new mobile. I'll PM it. We're hopeful of visiting London next year.

Although presumably in your case, foreign is east of said location

Don if what you said about your business was genuine then commiserations today. You'll be facing real problems and have some serious decisions to make and that can't be easy.

If there's anything that I can help with just let me know.
