It's crazy: Donald Tusk told the UK way back in March to 'concentrate on getting the Brexit deal through by 31 October [six months]'. What do we do? Leave it to the last week.

Of course we do.

It's obvious that any Brexit deal would fail to pass on its own merits given that half the country wants to Remain and that of the other half there are many who want to retain EEA membership and others for whom anything other than a complete separation from the EU is anathema.

Theresa May's deal (and Boris Johnson's deal which is the same deal in floppy hat an glasses) attempted to square that circle by retaining as little link as possible with the EU without severing ties altogether. It was still too close a relationship for the EEA whilst being too distant for others.

The only way to pass a deal is to create such a time pressure that MPs are unable to review the deal properly and/or feel obliged to accept any kind of a deal to avoid something far worse (either no-deal or no Brexit depending on your point of view).

It's never been about the UK's best interests, it's been about political theatre and avoiding blame for the inevitable bad outcome

He's talking about giving more time to debate his Brexit deal in exchange for an election, as if he has power over either of those things.

It would be quite wrong when he has gone to the great effort in proroguing parliament to come up with a queen's speech not to give him at least 3 more months to fail to get any of it through parliament show the effort was worthwhile.

Tu quoque is not a valid argument. I think it's a bit sad for both sides, though, that the best anyone can argue any more is "your lot are as much a bunch of stinking liars as mine," whether or not that's actually true.

And it's a bit of a stretch to call Jeremy Corbyn a "Remain supporting politician."

Actually in law a version of "your're another" is valid, the "clean hands" doctrine:

This is really not a proper way to run a country. It seems to me Boris Johnson should try to finish his Brexit business (where he has recently obtained an undeniable success), focus on avoiding no-deal, rather than playing so much politics.

It's more game playing.

If parliament votes for the GE before the EU moves on the extension but the extension is not granted (Macron?), or expires before the GE date, then we crash out or accept his crappy deal.

If the EU takes its time but does grant, say, a 3-month extension then Johnson can cry "ner ner, scaredey-cats!!" before the GE happens

In other news I'm increasingly scared about the emotions boiling up in the UK. Our son ventured into the snake pit of a UK armed forces 'leave' FaceBook forum. The vitriol flying around was terrifying.
