Biden for President?

Not open for further replies.
I suggest you go to his website: https://joebiden.com/joes-vision/

I think trying to make him out as a dementia riddled idiot with no experience in government or any ideas of his own is more than a little dishonest.
Why must the only two options be "trailblazing visionary" and "dementia riddled idiot"?

Biden seems to be a decent (for a politician) man with a fair grasp of the issues and a desire to help his Country and Party. He is also well past his prime, but his judgment still seems sound enough for what we need him to do.

I see a lot of references to "returning, restoring, reinvigorating, reviewing,
reversing, and reaffirming". Fine by me, things are off the rails right now and someone has to get them back where they belong.
His promise is to defeat Trump. Nothing more. It's a "let's go back to.." promise which is appealing to most Americans.
It is not full of bold new ideas and initiatives.

Yes, let's go back to the days of Obama politics, which lead directly into Trumpism.

Where do you think Trumpism came from if not a reaction to the failures of third-way politics?

What if he has to withdraw for health reasons? Does it then fall to Bernie? Of course, Bernie could get it too.
In that situation we will see candidates re-enter the race who had previously dropped out.

Tulsi Gabbard for President.

The change we can achieve need not come from Biden, IMO, he serves only as someone that can depose the Trumpster and put the a White House back on our side.

That does not mean I think improvements cannot be made on his watch, only that they will need to be made by the people that come into office with him- not by Joe himself. He will not oppose them, and will sign whatever the Dems put in front of him to sign.

Your belief that Joe Biden is some blank medium that will allow the VP or the House Democrats work through him without influence is very strange. There is nothing to suggest that Biden is going to take a backseat in his own administration.

A Biden victory will mean a Biden presidency. Any other theory is wishful thinking.

Polls when Biden entered the race (and continuing throughout) routinely showed Trump doing poorly against a "generic Democrat".
Joe Biden is as close to a "generic Democrat" as we could get.

Or, for an analogy, he is still going to be in the "Front seat"- but the car is autonomous.

The greatest wish of Biden supporters is for Biden to have as little influence as possible. It would be hilarious, if it weren't exactly how their type has been letting the country get ruined for years.

I'm not a Biden supporter, and I want Biden to have as little influence as possible.

Biden is giving a lengthy interview on CNN right now. Doesn't have good things to say about Trump.

Why? What's "their type?" He's an intelligent, responsible public servant. Comparing him to any Republican is just ridiculous.

Who said those must be the only two choices? I certainly didn't. It's the claims being made that Biden is running only out of a 'sense of duty' and that he's basically just going to be a figurehead letting his VP really run things that I find just outright silly.

I agree. But, look at all the claims in this very thread by several people claiming Biden has dementia and that there's a conspiracy to put him into office anyway by the Dem establishment, including the former candidates who have endorsed him. That's just ridiculous CT nonsense based on sour grapes.

Of course his promise is to defeat Trump! Isn't the objective of any election to beat the opposition? But to claim it's "nothing more" is being dishonest. His campaign website clearly lays out his multiple goals. Whether you think they're not 'bold or new' enough isn't the point nor was it ever my point. My point was about the "figurehead"/VP will really run the country nonsense.

It's trolls spreading FUD, almost certainly in a calculated attempt to weaken Biden's chances in November.

That too, but look at our own "conservative" trolls leaping onto this narrative. It's weasels all the way down.

Can you give an example of what you're talking about?

It's also not the trolls' fault (to the extent that the trolling you're talking about is even going on in the first place) that the meme they're trolling with originated on the left. Nor is it the trolls' fault that those on the left are pushing the meme not as trolls, but in all seriousness as a legitimate attack on Biden's fitness.

There's a real problem on the left, with accepting Biden as a candidate. Blowing off that problem by deflecting to "conservative trolls" doesn't really help you, now or in November.

---

Personally, I see no need to troll on this point. The problematic aspects of Joe Biden speak for themselves, and the intra-party slapfight over them is fascinating to watch in action. I'm sure that after calling Biden-skeptical conservatives "trolls", the next move in the playbook is going to be to call Biden-skeptical progressives "Russian bots" or some such thing.

Besides, a Crazy Uncle president with a babysitter cabinet isn't a big concern to me. Obviously. The only real issue there is, if that's all the Democrats have to offer, I'd rather just keep the incumbent. Why change crazy horses mid-crazy-stream?

If Biden wants to be elected President then he better start talking about Covid-19 almost exclusively.

This election will be hinged on a single issue. What are you going to do about the virus and what are you going to do about the destroyed economy?

It's a brand new world.

If SARS-CoV-2 is still an issue for the US in Jan 2021, then you are in serious trouble.

As long as you buy into the "Crazy Uncle President/babysitter cabinet" CT nonsense--as you obviously have-- and think Trump is in any way comparable to Biden, then go ahead and vote for Trump. Frankly, I can't see it but I can't understand anyone voting for Trump for any reason either.
