That would be Religion by Age by Sex, but I haven't found it yet (I've been looking). It may not be released yet.

But I get ABS release emails daily, and will be keeping an eye out for more data.

Cheers, Legend. :)

Here's a nifty thing.

Enter your postcode under Census Data - Quick Stats Search and you can see info about your area.

In my locale, here's the religion stats:

No Religion is leading the way, which is a relief, since we're still more religious than Victoria as a whole.

Ha! We rule!

My boyfriend was once in Australia during the census. He was on a boat in the Great
Barrier Reef. They came around handing out census forms, insisting that everyone fill one out. Even he and his traveling companions, both of them US Citizens in Australia for two weeks total. Bizarre. At least they didn't make them vote!

They just wanted to know who's here, on that night. It's all useful information, for a country that counts tourism as one of it's major employers.

You linked to Religion by Age by Sex in post #37, but only for males.

I haven't checked, but I suspect the data by post code is the 2006 data. I'd be surprised if last year's data is available at that level.

But it's very interesting to look at your post code's demographics, particularly if yours has a small population, like mine. From what I've seen, my post code has the highest number of children per family in Australia. And, no, we are not in front. There is one family with 9 kids, and two with eight. There are two with seven (yes, we're one of them) and one with six. With a post code population of just over 1000, it a very interesting demographic.

Sorry, I'm a census junkie.

It would appear that immigration is mainly responsible for the "no religion" not being higher than it is.

Anecdotally, new immigrants are making the bulk of the numbers filling Catholic churches. I haven't found anything in the ABS stats to verify this yet (that is a difficult site to navigate).

I made this while watching the footy. It's easy to share around now, so feel free.

Why are young people less religious than older people
a. Older people 'find' religion as they get older
b. Young people are finding out that religion offers them little and will probably never be religious.

Be interesting to see a graph like Legend's for previous census.

I didn't catch this study myself. Do you have a reference to it?

Mum works for the local Anglican church. She was updating the Church Roll this week.

There are 400 people on the Church Roll, but 1,420 said they were Anglican on the census.

Guilt is a powerful delusion.
