• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

Atheists are just maltheists.

1inC is just some nut spoiling for a fight that doesn't end in him getting beaten up, and I am obliged to give him a good one, or just make fun of him as he trips himself up. I do not think he represents anything close to the majority of religious believers. I sincerely doubt that he is the sort of person a religious institution would want to call one of their own. If religion didn't exist, this guy would go foaming-at-the-mouth insane over something else, like politics or sports, and he'd probably kill for those reasons just as readily as the ones he has now.

Interesting, I don't think 1inC can imagine how anyone can simply not believe in a god. The thought must be very perplexing to him (a hint for 1inC, it begins with assuming nothing, no God, no Satan, just what you see/feel/etc, then go from there).

I wonder what it's like to live in such a scary, unpredictable world as his.

Hard to say. I have a hard time imagining people being so wired up with religious hate and terror (which they call 'love' and 'reverence') as not to be able to conceive of a different perspective on life.

Then again, I've read about cults and the 'wonders' they work in brainwashing. If you start with a five year old kid and ruthlessly just drill nonsense into their brain and never let any light in, you'll end up with an idiot who thinks the sky's blue because it's god's underpants, which are blue, and fears all manner of supernatural 'consequences' for even thinking the wrong way.

Never really had a chance, poor kid.

I've figured it out! 1inChrist prefers TVLogic. You know, the underdog sports team will always ends up winning because they have more heart, police officers are either incompetent thugs or behavioural geniuses, and everyone who doesn't claim to be a christian has some angsty story about how God didn't help them in x and therefore they don't believe in him.

[There was a Law and Order episode I was laughing at recently that did this. In real life if you ask an atheist why they stopped believing, they tend to give a variant of "I grew up". In the TVverse they tend to look guilty or tell you some dark tragedy]

We already know he has a hard time distinguishing fantasy and reality, did we really expect him to realise that what the TV says isn't neccesarily *gasp* true?

... I almost refrained from making a comment about the OP being a 'tardegy'. Almost.

I am sure there are some people foolish enough to not believe in God but I think the majority of ''atheists'' are just maltheists.

You may as well suggest that Jews are really just Christians that haven't accepted Jesus yet. Atheists do not believe in a god, of any kind, period. A maltheists do. I will conceed however that as you describe the christian god, he sounds like a spiteful character, but as atheists don't believe it exists it kind of makes the whole thing irrelevant.

BTW - can you try and figure out what YOU believe before you start trying to tell others what they believe - thanks!

Just look at the way people bash God, Jesus,

I assume you mean verbally?? They are not bashed, we just ask for evidence to support their existence (other than the Bible)

The Bible,
Well it deserves it - nobody would buy in to a work of fiction written that badly in this day and age.

The fact of the resurrection that no historian disputes.

So if I can name 1, just 1 historian that disputes the ressurection will you admit to being wrong? Will you renounce your faith and open your eyes to the reality of life as it is??

1inChrist said:

May I ask a question to all the so-called ''atheists'' here?

Nope, but you can ask the atheists if you really want to.

1inChrist said:

What happened in your life that made you get mad at Him? Did someone die? Did a horrible tradegy happen? Well, it doesn't matter because on Judgement day you will have ZERO excuses for throwing such raw hatred towards Him. It doesn't matter what has happened in your life.

How can I be mad with something that I don't belive exists?

Are you mad at Zeus and Vishnu? You reject them, why did you do this, what have they done to cause you to hate them???

If all the hate in the world manifested itself as merely ignoring the person in question, I don't think we would have half the problems that we currently do.

I'm an atheist, I do not believe in any God. However, if the God of christianity exists as described in the bible he is an evil God.
If God has created hell for the sinners, then satan is his sock puppet. If satan were a real rebel, he'd make a party in hell for all the sinners and give God the finger.

So one could say that I'm a conditional maltheist. I believe in an evil God on the condition that I believe in your God, which I don't.

I am a atheist.

However maltheistisme seems to have far more logic than your standard christianity.:D

I never waste time getting mad at imaginary figures. I may however get occasionnally mad at idiots and trolls who try to force their hallucinations, delusions, and beliefs on others.

Completely OT, but the Ripped from The Headlines story on this next Sunday's L&O:CI seems to be Madalyn Murray O'Hare.

From nbc.com "WHEN WELL-KNOWN ATHEIST MEETS HER MAKER, POLICE SUSPECT FAMILY AFFAIR - When a prominent atheist leader is kidnapped, ransomed and murdered, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) interview the victim's granddaughter (guest star Mara Hobel) who was also kidnapped but survived and the suspects include more family members, including the dead woman's son - now a reverend with a prison ministry."

It should be interesting to see how they handle it.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled nutjob.

Something I've finally realized about the way I read certain threads: If I come to a post by one of the Three Impenetrables, Ignorant Ion, LifeGaper, or Yacckus (a particularly odious specimen of something, BTW), I tend to scroll down, barely skimming their weary, dreary, windy, ill-written hashing/rehashing until I come to somebody else's post, and read that.

But when it's a 1mmChrist thread, I scroll through the sane people's posts and read what he has to say. To be sure, his posts are also ill-written and studded with phonetic spellings, but they're short, vivid in their way, and -always- a hoot.

THough I am only an armchair historian, the fact that no hisotiran disputes the resurrection is news to me. It would also be news to all the real historians I know.

People can get just as wired up about political or military coups. Happens in third world countries all the time.

I don't really consider 1 in c to be the audience for all the responses.

I think that these threads are for the lurkers who might be questioning their own faith, and are looking to see what else is out there.

I think that these threads help illustrate the difference between critical thinking and rabid blind faith.

I pretty much agree. I know full well that 1inC is likely a troll. He is basically every bad fundy stereotype rolled into one package. BUt it's a pretty convenient package because though I have never seen all of his stupid arguments together in one plaace before, I HAVE heard every one of them before. So though arguing with 1inC is pointless, I hope that somewhere some either some fundy is rading them and will know better than to throw them out because they are pretty easily demolished, or some kid somewhere who is on the verge of buying into some fundy argument reads it and thinks twice.

Not only that, taking up these arguments helps keep ME sharp for the next time a serious fundy comes poking around.

There is a time and a place for everything, even troll feeding.

I was a believer for most of my life. I also thought that atheists were merely angry at god and I couldn't conceive that they honestly didn't believe. But then again, I didn't really give it any deep thought. I just went with the party line on atheists.

Maybe if we say it enough times, 1inC will actually understand (though I doubt it).

Atheists DO NOT BELIEVE in any gods (evil or otherwise).

Make that a tripple! I need to be drunk in order to discuss philosopholoy!
