How does that relate to West and what he said? How is that on topic?

Seems like it is a post addressing the guilt-by-association which is the topic of the OP. West's statement is just the latest, most egregious example. Consider the thread title for evidence.

Communism is considered a totalitarian system by these particular people that see the Red Scare around every corner.

From Wiki on totalitarianismWP
The concept of totalitarianism was first developed in a positive sense in the 1920s by the Italian fascists. The concept became prominent in Western anti-communist political discourse during the Cold War ....
AKA the McCarthy era.

Communism is of course, not synonymous with totalitarianism, but what would West be so afraid of if it weren't for the whole imaginary threat? The point is this particular fear mongering rhetoric is related.

Communism just isn't the bogie man it once was. Who's afraid of the Red Scare?

I'm afraid I can find people like that without looking very hard, even in the Seattle area.

Actually what I had in mind was the more and more extreme language being used in this Republic rhetoric. Guilt by association was the rationale but the use of these increasingly absurd radical labels is the issue.

Problem was that the CP-USA also proclaimed Joe Stalin as a "The Great Friend Of The Workers" Stalin's Russia as an almost ideal State, and quit any criticism of Nazi Germany right after the Nazi/Soviet pact of 1939.
And there were plenty groups advocating the 40 Hour weak, Racial Justice, etc aside from the CP-USA and did not embrace Totalrianism of the Right Ideological flavor.

True, but irrelevant to my point, which is that anything the CP-USA does that is sensible quickly gets distanced from the CP-USA when it works.

I thought the era was bygone but this stuff is increasing, not decreasing. I mean really, commies in the government? Public pressure on companies to withdraw from a corporate lobby group is totalitarian? I'm floored by this stuff.

Would you agree that calling West a "Dominionist" is also using an absurd label for fear mongering?
I don't know about the Evangelical background of West. I didn't pay attention to him until now.

I tend to see the right wing Christian political interference as part of the right wing extreme whole, not as the driving force.

In other words, I'm not interested in that particular label.

Same with calling West a "Dominionist", it's also making him guilty-by-association.

Him being a Christian Republican doesn't make him a "Dominionist". It's a spiteful, empty, gratuitous rhetorical label just as "Communist" is.
Why do you care? Do you think people should ignore his Evangelical ideology (assuming he is an Evangelical) or are you worried the label smears all right wing Christians? It clearly doesn't smear all Christians?

I can see why Cleon is moving some posts as OT. This tu quoque is OT, IMO.

Fascism isn't a much of threat to the USA. We're simply too large and spread out to have a homogenous national identity. Sure, there's a few flickers among the super-Christian far-right and it makes for good hyperbole but our entire national identity would have to change radically before we would get our own little Mussolini.

Ditto communism.

But they could, and very nearly have, taken over the government, because they are convenient to the 1%.

...make it similar. You know, with quotes and involving a prominent Democrat accusing dozens of Republicans.
This ^^^

Pard, it would seem you could deal with your tu quoque by PMs with lefty instead of derailing the thread. Are there liberals calling Republics Dominionists?

The thread is not about name calling, it is about accusations of commies in the Congress. Calling liberals totalitarian for voicing a political opinion is within the same realm.

If you want to bring up something relevant to the thread then you need to show how it is relevant to the thread. A personal fight with lefty is not relevant to the thread topic.

But he was Batman, and his voice work on Family Guy is great! Although I can see you thinking he's crazy because the character he plays has his name and all.

(But on a serious note, there is already a thread on this.)
