Anyone know Feng Shui theory?

Actually I recall seeing an advert on British TV a few years ago that summed up the Feng Shui style - well, it did for me anyway. :)

It started with a guy in an expensive apartment, surrounded by very expensive furnishings.

Alas - our lad isn't happy, so makes a phone call.

In walks the "guru" with his acolytes - the guru is the actor who was the bad guy in the "X-men " Films, by the way.

These assistants are shown moving the furniture, as the guru stands to one side with a faint smile on his face.

Final scene - the room is now empty apart from - a large, comfortable armchair, a large screen TV and a refrigerator that turns out to be full of cans of beer.

OK - it was as advert for Aussie beer, but made me believe that maybe there's something in this Feng Shui stuff. ;)

Sorry for the derail, guys....

Well, that was certainly a thorough reply and it'll take me a while to read through it all, and I do appreciate it.

Don't bother....

The Qi that Feng Shui allegedly balances is the mystical magical and infinite universal energy, and the frame work of 5 elements and 8 gates and 64 trigrams, and so forth is an attempt to categorize everything in a way that can be used to purport causality between almost anything.

More like acupuncture 'theory' for the physical world, combined with a hefty batch of folklore.

More to the point, feng shui can not be "proved" in any way, and could never have been discovered because its effects can not be measured.

All the crap diagrams and theories are just made up. Never have any feng shui practitioner been able to show that if one of the symbols was exchanged with another, the system would no longer work. Because it always works! Or not!

As far as I know, this is the true diagram of the ba gue, although, maybe there are other ones too

How do you know that this is the "true" diagram?

This is the first thread I've seen where the quality of the posts is inversely proportional to their length. Mine included, of course! :)
You should read Trainman's thread: He rambles on and on while people like me, who believe brevity is the soul of wit, make very simple points he can't address.

I'm pretty sure most of us already accept that as fact. well...most of us.

my idea in starting this thread was to find if anyone knew exactly what feng shui was claiming to bolster my "theory" that my coworker was stealing the "energies" from those people around her.

If I can't convince her it's BS, I'd at least like to make her feel guilty about diverting the flows of positive energy that are rightfully MINE :D

RapMasterT,

I was not accusing you. I do understand what you want to do, and good luck to you!

My own suggestions along the lines of your thinking would be to claim that after feng shui has been known all over the world, pollution, tree death and natural catastrophes have gone up because of the huge increase in people who directing the flow of the natural energies towards themselves!

If you want to have some fun. The next time something goes wrong at work, mention to her the cubes are not lined up north-south. So maybe she should suggest to her bosses that all the cubes be moved to line them up that way.

Or even more fun, tell her that it will never work because the building is basically misaligned. And either she should figure out a way to move the building or perhaps look for work at a company who has a properly aligned building.

On the subject of 'ancient wisdom' as a whole, how far back do we have to go to reach the point where we knew everything and cars ran on water? If we go back to where chimps and ourselves began to diverge as species, did we know everything? Or is it all a load of balls?

Ask her this on the north-south alignment:

Is that true north or magnetic north?

If magnetic north, then how often does one have to re-arrange things due to the changing position of magnetic north ?

The earth is so big, that it probably doesn't have to be totally exact anyways, but in the past ages it seems they were pretty exact.

How do you know that this is the "true" diagram?

That's the most commonly used and accepted form, by chinese tradtitions and chinese people that I know of. Unless it is backwards, actually, I hadn't thought of that, the Taiji in the center I think has a correct way, the black and white have specific sides

Not having read any of Kilik's posts before, I have an instant knowledge of how each of them will be from now on.

Posting dozens of links
Quoting dozens of articles
Never answering a question directly

How am I doing?

No, I directly answer questions. It's just that if it doesn't conform to you notions developed while being raised in your society, you either ignore them, or can't understand the meaning or context. Mostly you don't like the answers is all.

See, alfaniner, you gotta learn to LIKE the answers. Now if you would stop losing all those cupcakes, you could practice on improviing you tastes ... and likes ... and, in the process, certainly gain some ancient wisdom. CLM. :)

No...you don't answer anything.

You spam the threads with a hodge podge of woo-woo stuff you've googled, and which you yourself do not understand... either the meaning or the context.

As has been amply demonstrated time after time, you wouldn't know Qigong from King Kong.

All you've provided are examples of how ignorant you are of the culture that you claim others don't understand.

You got me mixed up with yourself. That's for sure.

You think Xingyi comes from Taiji, nor do you understand Daoist principles or the meaning of Ba Gua, 8 trigrams, lol

I wouldn't hodge podge anything. What I show is connected and true

It's all there to see, so anything you can come with can only be a strawman, or a convenient explaining away

You are ignorant of even basic things, and have the most ridiculous theories. Ones that no one else anywhere ever has ever claimed, except you. So how can you talk about understanding specific cultures? Plus no speicific culture of the past, was actually named here
