Anyone following the Casey Anthony trial

OK, I started watching because the news is so repetitive one can only watch so much of the Repug candidates for 2012.

I don't think this blathering autopsy doc is going to outshine Dr G. I would bet it's bothersome to the jury that he's trying to make it sound like Dr G did such a terrible job. If he was smart (and clearly he isn't, he's just there for the money), he would suggest errors, not claim the autopsy was totally bungled. Dr G has a ton of experience with murder victims. Not opening the skull is hardly as convincing as a glove that didn't fit. ;)

If the Cranium don't fit, you must acquit!!

I hope I have this right and if I don't, I am sure quadraginta will correct me; I believe her attorney stated that Casey's boyfriend put a picture on Myspace captioned: Win her over with chlorophorm. Casey was curious what the caption meant. That was so last week, though.

This theory has been proposed. There is some reason to give it a certain amount of credence.

The Google searches and site visits which were discovered on the Anthony's computer were made at the end of March. Her boyfriend at that time had that captioned photo on his Myspace page. It was making the rounds then. He was definitely not alone in copying it.

Whether or not this led to further contemplation on the potential uses for chloroform by Anthony herself is anyone's guess. What did happen when these details and the report from Vass about the car trunk were first disclosed is that the media mavens quickly built an entire crime reconstruction based on nothing more than that, with Casey brewing up her own chloroform to dose her daughter so that the kid would be knocked out while she partied on.

There were more than a few problems with this scenario, not least being that the first time she tried it would probably have been the last. There are good reasons that medical professionals gave up using chloroform for anesthesia as soon as something better came along.

Maybe that's what happened.

Another is that you can't just give someone a dose and expect them to stay knocked out for very long. It would make a really lousy babysitter. Benadryl would work much better, not to mention being easier to come by.

If you want to do in a two year old it still isn't the best or the simplest choice.

I have not completely excluded the idea that actual chloroform played some real part in this tragedy, but so far I'm not convinced that it is likely or even needful to build a compelling case against her. That's why I referred to it as something of a red herring earlier.

The defense is claiming that since there's no way to prove the searches weren't hotlinks or "jokes" like RickRolls or something, there's no way to definitively say that the searches were made in the context of planning a murder.

Yes, really.

Um, no, most redirects are to very specific places, not those sites.

84 times is a lot. I agree. It's almost too many. Take a look at the archive link on making chloroform. It isn't rocket science. It's not even high school science. Now, I'll be the first to admit that Casey probably isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, but eighty four times?

Not that strange, if she had some obsession with it, look at it go back, look again, wander around, look again, obsession is a strange critter.

That's what I'm thinking. Like, I may go and look at something a bunch of times before committing to buy it.

Maybe she first Googled chloroform because of the boyfriend's joke picture, but then started getting interested? And went back to visit the recipe page while toying with the idea?

Whatever happened, I don't think anyone will ever get the satisfaction of hearing it from her.

Okay, so now the prosecution is looking into the possibility that Casey stole the drowning story from an inmate during her time in jail. This reminds me of all those movies where the protagonist takes on the lives and stories of other people. She reminds me of a girl I knew long ago who was a Pathological Liar, which was one person you never wanted to be around.

Similar to inmate's Story

I wonder if a movie deal has been struck yet? It's weird enough to actually make for an interesting movie. I nominate Lacey Chabert for the roll of Casey Anthony.

When they first presented that as an explanation, my first reaction was that it's plausible. Of course my second reaction was panic that I may one day be a person of interest in some investigation and FSM help me, if that ever happens. I cringe to think of all the strange crap I look up as a result of things mentioned on this board.

Even if it is true, though, that she only looked it up out of curiousity, the well has been effectively poisoned by first; the medias presumption of guilt, long before the body was found, and second; by all the other wild accusations the defense has thrown around to present reasonable doubt.

Well Sgt, I think that most people have done some suspect-type searches that would come up in our history, but I doubt that there would be enough focus on any of them, or enough other searches that would appear to co-oberate, anything really being amiss.

Today Anthony's mother testified that she was the one who did the searches. Of course she wasn't the one who did them, and is attempting to lift some of the damage already done in testimony against her daughter.

At first I was disgusted by her obviously untruthful testimony today. I was disappointed because it appeared earlier on in the trial that she had fnally realzed the truth. But then who would ever want to be in her place? As a mother myself, as unimaginable as her position is, I can't judge her.

I dunno, I think there is something else there. Like mother like daughter maybe? The Mom seems to be a tad messed up herself.

If it were me, (and I am a mother too), I would want my child to come clean and get a lesser sentence rather than trying to lie for her in such a feeble attempt. The jury is not going to buy it so why bother with such a tactic?

This whole case is getting crazy wacky insane. I'm starting to lose track of what the defense is trying to prove anymore. I tune in to watch every so often each day, and it's just a constant barrage of objections from the prosecution, and continuous sidebar conversations, then they have the jury leave so they can ask the defense witnesses questions to determine if anything is relevant, and once they decide it is relevant, the jury comes back in and the prosecution goes back to objecting every other question...
