Really?

I've watched Fox News for a few days now, and he's been called a socialist at least once per hour. Obviously, this reflects a rather significant percentage of the views on him. Yet I don't recall even conservatives here saying so. So if anyone thinks he is a socialist, by all means post it.

i think there are people that do genuinely believe this.

i do not think these people know what socialism is.

Well, this raises an interesting philosophical question. If someone thinks that "duck a l'orange" describes cooked ground meat patty placed in a sliced bun, would it therefore be true to say that they believe that McDonald's sells duck a l'orange?

It seems that they don't actually believe that McDonald's sells duck a l'orange, but that they would say that they do .. with perfect sincerity. Which is something of a paradox.

Because talking heads on Fox News parrot this nonsense once an hour that means it obviously reflects a rather significant percentage of the views on him??? Those douche bags are more inclined to tell people what to think.. not represent their thinking.. And at the end of the day, that's exactly what they want.. to get everyone calling Obama a socialist by the end of the day.. it's sick.. it's how brainwashing works... just keep repeating it and repeating it, and certain people of lesser intelligence will just start buying it.

Anyone calling Obama a socialist obviously haven't met any real socialists.

Here in DK Obama would be classified as a conservative leaning to the right. I suspect that the talking heads on Fox would explode if they were ever to come across one of our socialists.

Certainly some here have made this claim or stated this:

We have a socialist president. ....snip....

...snip...

And that assumes his socialist and envirnomentalist policies d

...snip.... The dream that socialists like Obama have

...snip.... We haven't included the portion of his socialist agenda

...snip.... they will accomplish nothing towards achieving the socialist goals they've laid out ... .....And when even the socialist fools in Washington... .... Which makes him a certified, baldfaced, socialist liar. .... ... and Obama's socialist government will be no different. ....

However when actually challenged to support this claim they cannot do so.

Not a socialist at all.

ETA: Why did those 3 that voted yes not explain what makes him a socialist beside the FOX Facts?

THWEEET! Flag on the play. Penalty for the use of "Fox" and "facts" in the same sentence.

I am not a Marxist, even if I do find Marx more laudable than the late and unlamented Milton Friedman, but I am kind of left of center, and think Obama is too far to the right.

you bloody liberals.....

FOX is a spinfree zone i heard.

@Lefty

my problem is, i like Friedman and Marx. i know its contradicting eachother :)

I'd like some evidence that Obama has been called a socialist at least once an hour on Fox News. I watched it all day yesterday, until the "opinion" shows came on (starting with Beck, then O"Reilly and Hannity). Just watching the news all day, I don't recall one mention of Obama being a socialist. Once you get into those opinion shows in the evening, all bets are off.

No fair posting a poll while BAC is on suspension.
Let's just assume that both "socialist" and "communist" are +1.

If you really want, we can post large quotes from random right wing blogs to give the thread that ol' BAC flavor.

you libs are all asleep, he clearly said, spreading the wealth around is good for everyone... i mean cmon, wake up libsheeps.

Well, I've been watching for 3 hours now. Number of times Obama has been called a socialist: zero.

There is a definite propaganda campaign from the right to have Obama labeled as socialist. It's all over conservative talk radio, Republican leaders are dropping it all over the place, and conservative pundits use the "s-word" as much as they can get away with.

Unfortunately, the only way you can call Obama a "socialist" is if you're completely ignorant of what Obama's policies actually are, or if you're completely ignorant of what socialism actually is.

Well, wikipedia gives this definition:

Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating public or state ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and a society characterized by equality for all individuals, with a fair or egalitarian method of compensation

So, I guess yeah you could call him a socialist, but the definition is so broad it's pretty much meaningless, especially in today's world. Pretty much every government includes some kind of socialism.

Well, except for the fact that Obama's policies don't involve "public or state ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods." (And I agree with you that the last bit about a "society characterized by equality for all individuals" etc is too vague as to be useful.)

In fact, most of his policies that I can see involve giving money to private organizations--the bailout(s), the stimuli, etc. Even Obama's plan for "universal health care" isn't a nationalization plan, but a plan to get more people buying private health insurance.

The closest we've seen to "public or state ownership" involved the Federal Reserve using being issued stock warrants as a security on bailout loans (this was done to AIG, not sure if it was done to others). However, that was under the Bush Administration, not Obama, and AFAIK none of the warrants have been executed (nor are likely to be).

There is no definition, implementation, or theory of socialism I am aware of that involves the government giving money to private organizations.
