Ann Coulter has no clue

Context is eveything.

"Adopted in 1971 at the tail end of the Worst Generation's anti-war protests, the argument for allowing children to vote was that 18-year-olds could drink and be conscripted into the military, so they ought to be allowed to vote.

But 18-year-olds aren't allowed to drink anymore. We no longer have a draft. In fact, while repealing the 26th Amendment, we ought to add a separate right to vote for members of the military, irrespective of age."
A.C.

is in context with this:

"As we have learned from ObamaCare, young people are not considered adults until age 26, at which point they are finally forced to get off their parents' health care plans. The old motto was "Old enough to fight, old enough to vote." The new motto is: "Not old enough to buy your own health insurance, not old enough to vote." A.C.

Reality is everything:

The law only requires that a parent's insurance is available to children up to 26 who cannot acquire insurance through their own employer. It is basically a way of increasing group access. In no way is the law worded to imply that being 18-25 makes one less of an adult, more dealing with the practical reality that this age group has less access to affordable health insurance than older age groups. I worked full time in retail until I was 23 and never had access to health insurance through an employer. This would have been very beneficial to me. However at 23 I entered the semiconductor industry and had access to insurance through an employer and would not have been eligible for my parent's health insurance. I doubt Coulter was calling for a similiarly discriminating nuance.

Huh... I owned my own home at 21. Can I has votez?
Oh wait, the government pays for my health insurance. I guess not...

Is it true that Skanky Ann was a guy who had a sex change operation?

Did you know that a sex change operation from man to woman is only about half the cost of the sex change operation from woman to man?

Did you know that the sex change operation from woman to man is called an addadictomy?

What makes me mad is old people who have their healthcare covered by the government. They are treated like children and shouldn't be able to vote. Think about it -- all their values are outdated, most of them couldn't tweet to save their lives and not a one is up on Bieber. They've lived past their relevancy and aren't qualified to vote. How can we let people who will be dead in a few years make enduring policy decisions?

So, anyhow, that's how these articles are constructed. A hook, then a logical-seeming if-then. I've been paid to write this sort of thing. It does make you feel a bit dirty, but it amounts to preaching to the choir. A bit of rhetoric to make the troops feel good about their prejudices. Over the top? Sure. But not so far over that it doesn't have the feel of a rational argument.

I don't know the lady, but I expect she's laughing all the way to the bank.

And what libs have proposed disenfranchising millions of American citizens?

The group in question makes up a very large portion of our Armed Services. Why does Ann Coulter hate our troops?

Survival of the fittest, eh?

I know a conservative -- 60s, Mormon, former LAPD, Ph.D, white -- who says the vote should be reserved for only property owners. Seriously. Given the most recent right-wing talking points, I wonder if he'd allow public employees the vote...

I do love how Coulter allows the precious troops the right to vote. Military socialism is just oh-so-ok.

I think I got you beat... I know a guy who labels himself as "Christian" and believes that only "Christians" should be able to vote! By "Christian" I mean he follows the likes of Fred Phelps (i.e. homosexuals are damned to hell, military personnel are all 'fag' enablers).

He believes that if only "Christians" voted then and only then would our country be spared from the wrath of God!

Wow. Considering how ********** up our country is, he'll probably get his own TV show.

If I could make it so, only people over 21 who actually pay income tax, and/or are serving in the armed forces, would be eligible to vote.

Worse, they're borrowing ****loads of money that you have to pay back.

If you had actually read her article, or even looked at post #20, you would possibly comprehend the context of the above quote. But here it is again just for your edification.

Why is it OK for libs to cherry pick the quotes from a column to deliberately mischaracterize the obvious satire? Would you do this to Stewart?

We no longer have a draft? That's news to me. I certainly had to register for it.

But she's ignoring the rational for the rule in order to attack her own straw interpenetration of the rational. It's pretty standard Coulter stuff. I've seen the points she's trying to make argued well, but never by her.

Except you are old enough to purchase your own health insurance at 18 even with the new law. This new slogan fails in that regard. Nothing in the new law implies that people 18-26 are not adults. It is a recognition of the practical reality that many adults in this age group either decide to further their education and/or end up in entry level positions that often have fewer to no benefits. Parents are under no responsibility to support their adult children from age 18 on and the health care bill did not change that.

Since you believe you were drafted, when do you plan to do your military service?

Who are these folks who in your estimation argue these points well?
