Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been arrested...

Most of that's correct but he didn't command a warship, he was considered unsuitable and when that was the next step in his career progression he was moved sideways into a specially created post at the MoD until he retired. You're right about his Falklands service though, it was genuine, some accommodation was made, for example he never overflew or landed on the islands themselves while they were occupied as they didn't want to risk him being captured and paraded through Buenes Airies, but he was certainly in mortal danger as an active member of the Navy in a combat zone fully participating in missions.

He flew some missions in the South Atlantic, mire has been made of it than actually happened.

He never commanded a warship or served aboard one in any capacity other than pilot.

Charles commanded a Warship.
HMS Bronnington. It was the 'Mothership' of my Sea Cadet Unit at the time up until it paid off from service.

I suppose his command of the HMS Cottesmore was a lie, then.

All in all, it looks like he had a very satisfactory career in a highly professional trade, picking up several respectable professional qualifications along the way.

@Carrot Flower King, can we put to bed the canard that Andrew never did anything useful?

I stand corrected and concede that point, thank you for the correction, I misremembered the audiobook I'm currently listening to. He was then moved sideways to the MoD due to his perceived unsuitability for the next level of command. There were also concerns about the amount of his time royal engagements were taking .

The HMS Cottesmore was not a warship. She was a Hunt-class mine countermeasures vessel. Mr Mountbatten-Windsor commanded her from April 1993 until November 1994, which was well after the Falklands conflict.

Didn't know they gave him a ship.

The arrest of Mountbatten-Windsor doesn't show that "no one is above the law."

It shows that those in power will only act against their own when the evidence is so overwhelming and so public that it is putting the system itself in jeopardy

From that same Wikipedia article:
When introduced, the Hunt-class vessels were the largest warships ever built out of glass-reinforced plastic.

It's a Warship.
Why would an MCM not be a Warship?

He was on Invincible flying Sea Kings in the Falklands.

We spent some time as one of her escorts. We were running ASW as there were Argentinian subs unaccounted for.

Up until then wood was used as the hull material with aluminium alloy framing on the preceding Ton class.
There was a Ton class built in GRP in the late 70s as a trial ship for the Hunts, like the Tribal class Frigates were built as trials for the gas turbine plant used in the County class Destroyers (Cruisers really, they were huge).

Was that the point? I thought the point was that Andrew had never undergone professional training, and never obtained professional qualifications, presumably being Incapable of either.
Indeed.
I dislike the scumbag, but there isn't any need to gild the lilly. He learned how to fly military helicopters (Sea Kings no less) and then flew them in a bloody combat zone. How is this not a qualification?

🤣 But since it's Thames Valley Police and not the Met, John Thaw as Morse rather than Regan would be more appropriate. ;)
Well actually, there are none police forces in the UK who are in various stages of investigating his connections with Epstein, including The Met

The Met
Surrey
Thames Valley Police
Essex Police
Bedfordshire
Police Scotland
West Midlands Police
Wiltshire Police
Norfolk Constabulary

I'm reading that he mostly flew transport, evac, and rescue missions. But the claim was that he didn't command a warship. He did, technically (a minesweeper doesn't usually engage in direct combat operations afaik), but not during wartime.

(I assume you meant nine, not none.),

And yet, as one of the stories you linked to says in the headline, it was TVP that made the arrest yesterday, which is what the original comment, and my response, was referring to.

He flew anti submarine patrols and radar decoy missions.
I had forgotten about his time commanding a ship but a mine countermeasures ship is a combat vessel in wartime. They do a dangerous mission. In peacetime they act as patrol vessels.
To command any RN ship is an achievement.
