Split Thread A second impeachment

Fox News is not even broadcasting the trial.
TOday they cut away just when the really damaging video started to air.
NO wonder every real jouunalist quite Fox a long time ago.

But Mr. Cruz said the managers had not connected the rioters' criminality to the former president.
If the link doesn't last, there are multiple sources.

Cruz went on Fox News right away so he's making the most of his ill-gotten attention. And clearly he's playing to people that didn't watch the hearing or watched without seeing. But his comment was worth a gazillion eye-rolls.

Hawley clings to his excuse:
Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri said, "I think they're laying out the evidence that they've got. I mean, it doesn't change the fact that what they're doing here is completely unconstitutional

Thune, OTOH, said the case was well made and he's waiting to see the rebuttal.
Sen. John Thune (R., S.D.) said the House managers ''were very effective."

Asked if he thought managers had made a connection between the president's words and the Jan. 6 attack, Mr. Thune said that "they've done a good job connecting the dots," and that "the President's Twitter feed is a matter of public record." He added, "they've done I think I said an effective job of going back several months and just showing that public record."
That's encouraging.

Someone will find a link but apparently he denied something about the phone message that accidentally went to the wrong person, I think. The important points, that's a way of trying to get cross-examination into the presentation when no witnesses were called, not trial-kosher.

Raskin stipulated he'd withdraw what was objected to and they could deal with it tomorrow when people had time to look at the evidence and the objection more closely. Raskin noted it was not critical to the case.

Cruz, Hawley...

they held the senate before trump and lost the senate directly due to him

i'm not sure why they continue to believe they need him

So they won’t get primaried by a candidate who Trump voters prefer. That’s the first door you have to pass through, so once you are through, then you can worry about the next one.

Unfortunately one of the many shames of America is that a significant portion of their population actually thinks this way.

Indeed, that's the main takeaway from Trumpism. There's way too many people who buy into the lies and nonsense that the GOP is selling these days. We'll continue to have more Jan. 6 events, thousands of lesser ones, ignorant politicians getting elected, etc. until we can educate our way out of this mess.

I saw an article today that stated that almost 60% of Republicans view Democrats as "enemies" rather than political opponents. No wonder compromise is a dirty word in the GOP. Biden has a HUGE barrier to overcome to get the nation back to political reality.

Rep. Matt Gaetz tweeted

@RepMattGaetz
Impeachment is unnecessary, divisive, and it’s only being done because Democrats want to keep the focus on President Trump so they can hold together their fragile coalition.

If Tommy Tuberville and Louis Gohmert rank #1 and #2 among the dumbest people ever to disgrace the US seat of government, Matt Gaetz definitely comes in a very close third.

Whither Trump goest, so goest Gaetz. Gaetz has tied himself so closely to Trump that his political fortune rises and falls with his and he knows it.

Sorry, that's the Linux geek in me coming out. elinks is a console-based HTTP client (aka "browser") that doesn't process JavaScript. The Washington Post's paywall is implemented using JavaScript, so without JavaScript the content is available.

I just search for the article title and can usually find it elsewhere. MSN is a good source that reposts a lot of the WAPo and isn't paywalled.

I try to use incognito but they still block me because I have ad block on.

Nobody, and that includes Melanie, could possibly be that stupid right now.

I don't think so. I think he's just that stupid.
Oh dear. Maybe I'm wrong...

If nothing else, there have been reports that they fear for their safety and their families' safety if they don't say and do the right things in public.

I think his best hope is to get covid under control so mask laws can be relaxed and, in the mean time, keep giving out stimulus cheques and other financial help. Even Trump supporters were complaining that they didn't get the money they were promised. If their lives are suddenly better under Biden, some of them might find themselves starting to have to grudgingly concede that he's not the Antichrist after all.

As long as Trump and his enablers don't actually receive notable punishment, "stupid" isn't exactly the right term, at last check. The Republican Party is in a dangerous state, right now, to say the least. At last check, more Republicans favor identifying themselves as Trump supporters rather than Republicans, for example. That's even after the attack on the Capitol. Perhaps that shouldn't be too surprising, though, given that Trump (and Cruz, really, who was the runner up in 2016) was so attractive to the "Burn the Republican Party Establishment Down!" voters that he won the 2016 primaries. Either way, the Republicans are facing the very real prospect of significant pro-Trump activists actively working to harm any "traitors" to Trump, dispensing death threats en masse, and potentially even a split in the Party that will cost them their long and hard work to gerrymandered and cheat to hold onto minority rule for their donors.

Surely...SURELY!...this has something illegal about it. :(

Fairly certainly, there is. That doesn't change the fact that death threats are pretty ubiquitous and utterly predictable when crossing groups that have significant authoritarian leanings and significant radicalization. With that said, death threats for those who oppose Trump have been a constant thing, regardless.
