I made a mistake in misquoting Tillerson, but in common usage "Idiot: and "Moron" are pretty much interchangable.
 
Just heard a joke that the only legal firm willing to take Trump on a Client is Wolfram and Harte. because hs is somuch like their usual clients...

What's really weird about this post is I hadn't read word one why the lawyers were dropping out. Just that they did. I was being sarcastic. Turns out I was spot on.

Life is weird when it imitates the craziest ideas going through my head.

Former President Donald Trump‘s legal team for the upcoming impeachment trial has been in a lot of flux lately. First, no less than five attorneys reportedly ducked out. Two more lawyers are on the team, however. The statement also notes these members–David Schoen and Bruce L. Castor Jr.–agree that the impeachment is unconstitutional.

Has anyone considered the possibility that the Dems might somehow catch the GOP napping by voting for conviction in the Senate when there are few or no GOP senators present? This is a fairly common tactic in most parliaments - passing stuff in the dead of night when the opposition has gone home for a sleep or something.

The constitution says "two-thirds of those present", not two-thirds of all senators. And yet the discussion keeps going on about trying to get 17 GOP senators to flip. But that is the "whole senate" argument. Some simple arithmetic should determine just how many votes are needed should not all (or indeed no) GOP senators be in the house.

That possibility has already been discussed.

Its not a totally impossible concept. But if it does happen, it won't be because they "caught the republicans napping". (Impeachment is such a significant event that pretty much every congress-critter will be paying attention to every moment.) It will be because some Republicans want Trump gone, but don't want to upset the MAGAchuds by voting against him. So they take the middle ground... sit out the vote (maybe claiming "impeachment is unconstitutional so I will protest by not voting"), and leave it to the Democrats and a few Republicans to actually convict Trump.

Well if it means anything, Castor was a former District Att. who failed to prosecute Bill Cosby.

(Castor) made the decision not to prosecute Cosby when Andrea Constand first accused the comedian of sexual assault...Constand settled a lawsuit against Cosby, and Castor’s successor brought charges against him...Cosby eventually stood trial twice, was convicted...Constand sued Castor for defamation in a case that was settled out of court, and the ex-DA filed a personal injury claim against the sex assault victim, arguing that Constand caused him to lose a 2015 bid for DA. That case was dismissed.

I am not completely familiar with what happened, but it seems to be a bit... strange.. to bring what appears to be a frivolous lawsuit against a sex crime victim. Perhaps a sign that he doesn't exactly have all his legal oars in the water?

Schoen is a veteran trial attorney who has represented federal criminal defendants, including Trump crony Roger Stone...He was most recently in the headlines for meeting with pedophile sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein before his death in prison; Schoen said Epstein wanted him to lead his defense team.

ETA: Stone was found guilty, was he not? (Not that that was necessarily the result of bad lawyering, but he did fail to keep Stone from making a problem of himself... getting in trouble with the judge on multiple occasions.)

Oh, I hope I hope I hope Trump is going to take the stand in his own defense. That will be the biggest few hours of TV since the OJ verdict.
