A hypothetical gun control proposal

If we had stricter controls here, then Mexico would not have as many guns.

********, our government would be happy to supply them regardless of controls, and we aren't the source for all their weapons. Shut off the flow from us and they'll get them from someone else. There are no stricter controls than, "it's illegal to do that", which it already is.

As usual, your blinders only allow you to see the guns, and not the underlying social issues.

Wikipedia is this way: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATF_gunwalking_scandal

But nice try--when you can't stand behind your arguments, simply attack your opponent. Is that something you teach kids while teaching them how to break arms?

The premise that the government provides guns to Mexico so that there will be more violence is nothing but a conspiracy theory.

A failed sting operation doesn't support your nonsense CT.

Next, you'll say that undercover cops posing as prostitutes is the government doling out hookers to the public.

Why are you inventing my premises? Can't stand behind your own?

"********, our government would be happy to supply them regardless of controls..."

Uhm.. you are stating right here that our US Government is happy to supply criminals in Mexico firearms. Your statement is nonsense and belongs in the CT forum.

Uhm...no.

I was stating that the government is an inept bunch of retards who "lost track" of 2000 firearms, one of which was used to kill a border patrol agent.

But, hey, Mexican cartels have been using an increasing amount of military ordinance and automatic rifles--where do you think they all came from? Huh? huh?

They lost track in a sting operation doesn't mean that "they are happy to give guns to Mexicans."

You are absolutely right. They were absolutely miserable when their poorly conceived and executed plan resulted in the death of a border patrol agent and thousands of lost guns.

You get a cookie.

Now...

Mexican cartels have been using an increasing amount of military ordinance and automatic rifles--where do you think they all came from? Huh? huh?

You seem so sure that gun control in the US will stop the violence in Mexico, but you don't know where the guns are coming from. Duly noted.

I didn't claim that it would stop the violence in Mexico. However, if there were fewer guns available in the USA, then there wouldn't be so many exported from the USA to Mexico.

Well duh, but now you're changing your premise. You stated, "If we had stricter controls here, then Mexico would not have as many guns."

Which is untrue. They would simply change the source. I hear China and Latin America is selling.

In addition, many of the firearms are legally sold to Mexico, after approval from the State Department, to law enforcement and military. These firearms are then sold to criminals. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-500202_162-57337289/legal-u.s-gun-sales-to-mexico-arming-cartels/

Yes, stricter controls would mean less guns available for export from USA to Mexico. If they change their source, so what? Are you upset that those profits wouldn't be coming to the USA?

Also, we should stop selling guns to the Mexican government as well.
