Apparently it was a 5.8 in VA.

Yeah, it's on the news here (So. Cal) right now. They say they're evacuating the Pentagon. This article says they evacuated the Capitol.

5.9 apparently. My wife just said her office was shaking a bit, sorta like the water cup from Jurassic Park (which we saw last night!)

She's in Norwell, MA. Its a few hundred miles away from VA.

Felt it all the way up here in Boston! At first I thought it was my building going the way of the Tacoma Narrows, but Twitter informed me otherwise

I think I just felt it a few minutes ago here in Toronto.

I felt it here in Toronto. Very minor shaking, but being on the fourth floor of my apartment building made it detectable.

Felt it near Philly. Noticeable shake but not enough to bring down any of my precarious piles of anything (books, cds, dishes...) so probably no damage in these parts.

Felt it in Waterloo, too, about an hour west of Toronto. At the time, I was on the phone with a guy in a Toronto suburb who said, "Did you feel that?" That's when I knew for certain it was an earthquake.

This is the first earthquake I've ever experienced (at least the first in which I was consciously aware of it being an earthquake).

No injuries or damage here, that I can see. But I am noticing cracks in my buidling and I am wondering whether they've ALWAYS been there, or ...?

My store starting making funny noises and some thing made odd squeaking sounds. I thought I was going crazy until I checked the USGS site.

Outside up in Boston and didn't feel a damned thing! Lots of people rushing out of the buildings though.
