Result of...
1 Biden steps down...unknown
2 Trump steps down...he goes to prison

No wonder he made an all out attack. His last chance to derail Biden.

Wait...what all-out attack are we talking about?

Has Trump said that Biden should step down?

I genuinely have not seen anything so I don't know. My suspicion was that Trump would be more worried about Biden dropping out and facing someone new, and would actually be fairly confident against Biden.

When Biden’s support dropped a whopping 1.6 percentage points in a poll where respondents could say they were “considering multiple candidates” and Trump’s number went up a staggering 0.4%, Trump surely won bigly! Hugely bigly! Like we've never seen before! People are saying! What a win!

There's also the fact that Joe Biden's brain turned to tapioca before the debate. I think that's pretty significant.

I ask again: You seem awfully determined to convince me that Trump "won" the debate. Why? I'm not trying to convince you or anyone that Biden won it.

Indeed. Nobody is trying to convince anyone that Biden won the debate. Which in itself is telling as partisans of both sides tend to say their candidate performed better than the other one.

Even if they drop Biden and his replacement loses, which seems like no difference at all from the practically certain loss Biden is heading for, it will still have been extremely important that they replaced him anyway. It will have been the first time in decades that DP showed the faintest shadow of a glimmer of a speck of either adaptability or respect for its own voter base. And starting to get the DP to quit being so stuck in its ways & condescending would improve the outcomes for multiple elections, so it's more important than any one election.

It's been 4 days since the disaster debate. Biden has still only (publicly) done 21 minutes of teleprompter speaking...and didnt look well otherwise - just gowatch the whole thing.

If you were Biden...and sharp as a tack and ready to defend your candidacy and avoid a constitutional crisis and an increasingly concerned populace, then you are doing a massively poor job of it by hiding out at Camp David.

The only reason for it is that he CANNOT do it. He is not capable. He is at a point that I do not think he will be in front of reporters(without his notecard of who is 'allowed' to call on) for more than 10 minutes ever again. Not as a candidate.

Maybe an edited network interview or a preselected round table? No way there can be anything left to chance.

Or they pull off the bandaid this week and get with a strategy for another candidate, despite the hurdles.

Very likely lose either way. Maybe they should have allowed a REAL primary. Huh?

Eta: things that do not count as any reassurance:

Predident's remarks
Press briefing
Written statement
Prepared Speech- even with a few planned 'off the cuff' asides.
Edited 'cool Joe' tik toks. Lol

I think also about the effect on down-ballot races with Biden atop the ticket. A less-than-enthusiastic blue turnout would also keep (or turn) out of office the very state and local officials who will be ever more crucial a bulwark against dictatorship.

My point is that I have repeatedly said that I don't think either of them won the debate. Biden lost because he gave a dismal performance and Trump lost because all he did was ignore the actual debate questions and lie over 30 times.

So why is the Prestige trying to convince me Trump 'won'? AFAIC, there was no winner.

After being a BIden supporter, I have to agree with the NYT Times editorialL he should step down.

There's also the fact that Trump refused to answer several of the debate questions and lied over 30 times. But that's just fine for Trumpers. 'Thou shalt not lie' is only for Democrats, right?

Of course both candidates lied, as both candidates lied in every other Presidential debate. It's pretty much standard operating procedure.

Nothing standard about that tapioca, though.

This is a good point because Biden won't be invited to do campaigns for them but they will still be asked lots of questions about him. Hot topic. Enthusiasm to come out and vote will wane. Presidential years get a boost due to the PRESIDENT. Right?

Trump really doesn't have that issue if he acts like an ass because he has many "never Trump" persons who are in elected positions now, or up for election that don't like him at all, and aren't afraid to say it. It doesn't seem to affect much. It is a known thing and Trump is actually supporting people who hate him these days. Strange days.

But Biden? I haven't seen any one in Congress, governors, mayors etc... who are saying negative things about his candidacy.
Seems like an unhealthy loyalty that will hurt many of them as we approach November.

If I have a single protip to hand out regarding elections, it's to do the exact opposite of whatever the GOP is suggesting you do.

Currently 3 men are favorites 1 to 3
3 women are 4 to 6

Ladbrokes

Trump
Biden
Newsom
Obama

Guy, you seem to be very happy about the idea of Trump 2.0

Do you disagree with Thomas Jefferson?

“The government you elect is the government you deserve.”

https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/9936224-the-government-you-elect-is-the-government-you-deserve

Given you have never concealed your contempt for the US in general, you prob ably are rejoicing in the idea he will destroy the US as a major power. Just remember this, Internatinal politics is like nature, it abhors a vacuum, and something will take the US Place. Hope you like a world dominated by Putin and China.

There's only one bloke in the thread suggesting there will be a civil war, and it's not me.

I despise the orange turd as a person, but four years of his presidency did bugger all and I think the fears of his becoming dictator or destroying USA are pure fantasy.

I couldn't give two hoots what you think, but when the contest was already neck-and-neck any change in support is disastrous.

4 days is nothing .. IMHO it's wise to do nothing. It's not even clear if it is a disaster or not. This week we will get some first large after-debate polls, next week even more. Then we'll see.

According to many people the polls don't matter, or are just wrong, so I doubt they'll change anyone's mind.

Biden isn't going to go without the intervention of a coronary or stroke, which would be bloody good news in that the Dems might gain a sympathy vote.

As always, Progressives have to rescue the Centrists from a disaster of their own making they would never have been in if they had listen to the Progressives in the first place.

Biden won't be replaced with a progressive. A progressive would be more likely to win, and would be better for the country overall in office, but even another bidenesque, clintonesque, pelosian, schumerian, newsomite, war-mongering/genocidal, corrupt bribe-taking corporatist Republiclone will still be more likely to win than Biden and less awful tham Trump, and that's all we can hope for at this point.

Ah, the GOP standard "both sides" fallacy with zero mention of the amount of lies Trump vs Biden told during that debate. From Politifact:

Debate Questions Fact Checks (Trump failed to answer some questions):

Immigration
Trump: Pants of Fire,Mostly False, False,
Biden: Mostly true, Half True.

Abortion:
Trump: False

Inflation and economy:
Trump: Mostly False, False, False,
Biden: Mostly True, Mostly False, Mostly True

Trump Legal Cases:
Trump: False

Social Security, Medicare and taxes:
Trump: False, False, False,
Biden: False, Mostly True

Crime:
Trump: False

Health Care:
Trump: Mostly False,
Biden: Half True, Half True

Foreign policy and terrorism:
Trump: False
Biden: False

Election denial and Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol:
Trump: False, False

Worst president rankings:
Biden: True

Let me guess: Politifacts is a commiesocialistlibtard crony site, right?

President Pelosi. That rolls off the tong easy.
President Schumer. Has a nice ring to it too.
President Newsom. Out with the old some. Not bad either.

Hmm... A progressive, whose name escapes me right now.

President AOL dial-up. Nope, doesn't work.

I guess around late August or early September the Democratic Party around here will wake up an realize they got the start their campaigns. Late as always. One of the things that just bugs the hell out of me. Remember Dean Phillips?
