I think what you don’t understand is that polls don’t matter, that debates don’t matter and soon some court is going to convict and sentence Trump which will swing the all important polls. Also, any minute now, Stephen Colbert and John Oliver are going to do a witty dance routine or give Trump a silly name. That’ll put everyone in a good mood. Morning Joe says this Joe Biden is best Joe Biden and only a fool would question Morning Joe!

Your poor brain has been hacked by propagandists.

Somehow, I don't think you have room to talk, after you claimed that Harris called Biden a racist. That's a much more egregious claim than the very fine people one, after all.

Trump's clarification that he supposedly didn't mean white supremacists and the like is notably later. Harris' clarification that she wasn't saying that Biden's a racist was right there.

Additionally, the more general "Trump thinks that white supremacists are very fine people" belief is backed with Trump's body of word and work, even if that particular instance is poor support for it. Further, as marting helped point out, just about everything about the Unite the Right rally itself undermines Trump's attempted clarification. On the other hand, Harris' body of word and work does not support that she believes that Biden's a racist.

Now, with all that said -

Regardless, the question remains: Who are the “very fine people” who attend a white supremacist rally?

Personally, I've never held that particular quote against Trump. People are not solely their worst traits, nor are they solely their best traits. Even if we go beyond the somewhat transparent excuse that Trump was supposedly talking only about the people peacefully protesting the removal of what they consider their heritage, eye-rolling as that always was, that still holds true. Even white supremacists can be very fine people in many contexts and their problematic beliefs often have roots in entirely understandable and shared parts of human nature. That doesn't mean that we should aide or abet them when they seek to encourage or do harm, of course. Opposing them when they seek to do such is good, but it doesn't make them any less human.

Right after Trump said that, he realized what he said and quickly said something to the effect of "of course I condemn white supremacy." His actions and words endorse white supremacy 95% of the time, though.

For example. When asked in an interview if he would condemn white supremacist groups, Trump asked the interviewer to name a group. The interviewer named the Proud Boys, to which Trump said "Proud Boys, stand by and stand down."

Mea culpa. Also, as the first black woman vice president it's only fair he should win.

What makes me absolutely LOL right now is Democrats telling everyone how terrible Trump is while supporting someone who should clearly be in age care.

Trump Trashes ‘Ridiculous and Abysmal’ Project 2025 Plan for His Second Term

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump trashed the Heritage Foundation’s “Project 2025” plan for his second term in office on Friday, calling parts of it “absolutely ridiculous and abysmal” in a post on Truth Social.

“I know nothing about Project 2025,” wrote Trump. “I have no idea who is behind it. I disagree with some of the things they’re saying and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal. Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them.”

Translation: "As soon as I'm King, I'll implement all of it."

They need to quit asking and just force him off. Maybe they are planning that but just doing it quietly, but I imagine there'd be leaks about it by now.

He's choosing to make himself the destroyer of the party, which they claim to think equals being the destroyer of the country, and they're just sitting back & letting him, so far.

Not good. He was asked repeatedly if he would undergo a neurological exam and he dodged each time. Bad decision.

The ousters are already in agreement.
Biden seems to be the last to know.

Or maybe he forgot since his answers do not match other statements of people who met with him in the last week. Some basically told him his candidacy was in bad shape and to 'prove it or lose it' this weekend.
Definitely did not prove it. But they knew he wouldnt, and so did the interviewer (Stephanopoulos)

So many questions giving Biden wiggle room to consider making a tough a decision for the sake of the Democratic party (and the country) and he just denies any of it is possible.
Denies it is even happening. Laughs at the idea. "They wouldn't do that". Ouch.

Did they set him up? or is he really unaware?

Yeah, he was not looking or sounding good. Probably the people who think there is nothing wrong with him will think it was okay, but people with doubts are not going to be convinced by that.

It's painful to watch and difficult to follow him some of the time. It's really like Grandpa Simpson.

He also kept dodging the question of what would happen if senior Democrats asked him to drop out of the race (Stephanopolus mentioned Pelosi, Schumer and Clyburn), but Biden said he had already spoken to them (!), but they had said that he should stay in the race.

He twice blathered about how he might drop out if the Lord Almighty came down and told him to (Is that supposed to be a good answer!), and finally, after being asked the hypothetical again, Biden finally said he wouldn't answer the question.

Sorry, but this comes across as ego at this point. He thinks he should be president because he's the best candidate, and he doesn't care about the bad polling, or the people questioning his ability to keep going. If he was really fine, he would be able to show it. Nobody questions if Bernie Sanders has dementia, even though he is older than Biden. This is not to say I think Sanders should be swapped in, because I don't. The point is simply that Biden hasn't convinced anyone that he's fine.

The sad thing about all this is that, even with all this, very little changes about who would be a better President between him and Trump. For all the legitimate concerns that there are, Biden in significant decline would still be dramatically better for the US than Trump in Trump's prime, much less the current also greatly in decline (and insanity endorsing) Trump.

Biden's greatly surpassed my expectations, regardless, so I'm not likely to make too much of a fuss either way. I won't be disappointed if he is replaced by another candidate, but I'm also not going to go out of my way to push for him to drop out. I'll just be voting for the candidate with policy that's better for the US, as usual, which is nigh certain to be the Democratic Party candidate.

Biden:
PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: Look. I have a cognitive test every single day. Every day I have that test. Everything I do. You know, not only am I campaigning, but I'm running the world. Not-- and that's not hi-- sounds like hyperbole, but we are the essential nation of the world..

So, he has a cognitive test every day because he's busy running the World. And he'd only drop out if God came down and told him to.

Good grief.

This too. It is word salad. I cannot picture what his words are supposedly illustrating...

BIDEN: Yeah, look. The whole way I prepared, nobody’s fault, mine. Nobody’s fault but mine. I, uh — I prepared what I usually would do, sitting down as I did come back with foreign leaders or National Security Council for explicit detail. And I realized — about partway through that, you know, all — I get quoted, The New York Times had me down at 10 points before the debate, nine now, or whatever the hell it is. The fact of the matter is, what I looked at is that he also lied 28 times. I couldn’t — I mean, the way the debate ran, not — my fault, no one else’s fault, no one else’s fault.

What does he mean he realized partway through that the New York Times had him down 10 points, now 9?

He realized this partway through the preparation or during the debate? Then,... the thing is he also lied 28 times???!??

The whole idea that he had a cold is just not credible.

If he was debating today instead of having an interview with a gently probing, but not particularly hostile interviewer, he would also be "just having a bad night".
