Why do people want to guess at polls and forecast the result of an election ahead of time? That's like sitting around the whole episode trying to guess what the surprise twist is going to be! Just relax and enjoy it, the ending will be revealed in due time.

Enjoy it?! I don't think I'm going to do much enjoying until it's over, and then it depends on the result. And even then, it depends on how people accept the result. And even even then, it depends on how we get to the Congressional counting of votes. And then. . . .

Come one, numbers are fun. Also while they can't really tell (with great certainty) who will win in November, they can tell other things. Like, do people care about the conviction ?

Perhaps a more telling question would be who, exactly, would be swayed by the conviction?

To provide a bit more context - Trump's long made it perfectly clear by his actual actions that he's worse than most felons, even without a conviction. He'd already been ruled to be a rapist in court. He's openly admitted guilt to worse and very relevant to the Presidency crimes than he was just convicted of. He showed himself to be a national security nightmare throughout and after his Presidency. He betrayed people and allies all the time. Hundreds of thousands of preventable deaths can be reasonably attributed to his very public lies and mishandling of a major disaster for very selfish and short-sighted reasons. His contributions to the economy were often to sacrifice long-term health for a momentary rush and he's had no problem with working to sabotage the US on pretty much all the even halfway reasonable concerns that he's pretended to be running on.

There's so much more that could be fairly added to that that it's rather insane, really. Okay, Trump's been convicted. What kind of person is that going to sway when everything else hasn't?

Well, perhaps it will cheer you up to remember how utterly powerless you are to effect the outcome. There is nothing you can do, it's entirely outside of your control. And even better: so is everything else that ever happens! You are mortal, life is short, and physics is inexorable: one day this planet and everything that has ever occurred here will end and nobody and nothing will know it ever existed! Total oblivion after a short period of pointless activity that accomplishes nothing and means nothing. There, now does that ease your distress? Let's embrace the positivity!

Well, in older polls, some people claimed they would change their mind if Trump is actually convicted, not before. So far no poll after conviction shows this. There are now 9 polls after the conviction, added together it makes no difference compared to the week before.

Dude, you are literally trying to change the subject and complaining that I won't go along with it. Then you're complaining that other people do the very same thing you are trying to do. You're right! Whataboutery is a dodge, and you are trying the dodge.

Besides, I'm not taking any crap about not criticizing Biden. You've clearly got the wrong person. I do plenty of that and refuse demands by some that I should get in line and stop critcizing him.

So why not stop employing the very tactics that you deplore.

You misunderstand. The dodge is evoking what autism, as you did in post 2032. It’s only used on this forum as an evasive tactic, and antithetical to critical thinking.

If I were to complain about President Biden’s lies, the following post would almost certainly be someone saying something that amounts to “what about Trump?”. Would you or anyone else call this out as whataboutism? Of course not - it doesn’t work that way.

Now that that’s out of the way, can you do Biden?

I don't think Eric meant to be racist or was being racist when he used "spades". Frankly, I don't think he's clever enough to get the word play connection. I think he just used the term as is commonly understood: in large amounts. However, to think that people wouldn't recognize the unfortunate use when talking about black people is naive at best. But I think you know that and the need to defend all things Trump is just a knee-jerk reaction.
