Read Biden recent quotes with Trump's voice & intonation & such in your mind.

The extent to which the content is a scrambled mess needing to be reassembled by the listener after discarding about half of the pieces is about the same.

These just looks like pointless objections.

If Biden decides to drop out, do you think the people who voted in the primaries will feel agrieved or robbed? Do you not think many of them are also thinking "Holy ****, Biden really is old!" Besides, the primaries were almost not worth their name given that nobody was seriously challenging Biden except the guy from the Young Turks who is ineligible anyway.

As for state laws. The states have already had their primaries. It would be idiotic to think that they somehow get to say that a primary cannot be re-run. What is a state to do? Go to the Supreme Court about it? Biden can overrule them and say he is acting in an official duty.

Also, the "no years of hard work" objection just seems to fetishize pointless labour.

Look, if Biden is too old to run, then he's too old. That's something that people have to learn to accept. They will learn it one way or the other. Though I assume from your "years of hard work" stipulation that you insist on learning the hard way. Hard way is best way, right?

My objections come from decades of observations of the political process. In the real world, the state owns the voting machines and their laws determine the use. Worse still it has to find personnel to pull those machines out of storage, check them for functionality, screen and hire temporary election workers, find locations for the voting, set dates, then tabulate the results, and find a way to finance it. Not going to happen quickly, if at all.

Actually, the article talks about holding primary debates, but no primary at all. It says the democratic party will determine the winner by an unknown mechanism. Now that I think about it. Exactly how long will it take for the politicians to decide this important bit?

"I have an idea... Someone else will do it!"

Then I noticed the bit about welcoming Kamal Harris to join the debates. And then I got it... This is a long joke.

Let say the fates be cruel. Biden falls ill with an incurable disease, two months from now, in wheel chair he speaks his deep regrets, retires from the campaign, and according to the rules established long ago releases his delegates to Kamal Harris. She becomes the presidential candidate, and according to the rules, someone else becomes the vice president.

This article is a complete hoax written with a fake name. Okay. They fooled me for a day.

P. S. I like hard work. It builds character.

Progress. Independent voter noticed that tTump pivoted in all the replies.
Independent voter Henry Bills said both Biden and former President Donald Trump have flaws, which were on display in the first debate.

“My confidence is pretty low, regardless of both candidates,” he said. “I don’t feel like we are in a great position. They both seem a little incompetent in separate ways. Biden seems to be all over the place, seems like one of my grandparents, and that’s not a great thing. And Trump is really argumentative and doesn’t really want to answer questions, and that’s not what the country needs right now.”

makes sense to me. trump didn't have a particularly strong debate performance himself. it was typical trump, which even at it's most trumpy is pretty off putting to most people.

It was the kind of performance that, in better times, might lead to more publicized calls for Trump to drop out, really, was it not?

Oh yeah. Trump's debate performance was really bad, but Biden's was worse, and the media is full of people who want to prove they are not liberal by viciously attacking Democrats, so...

There are many people who make a living talking. A good skill to have. And handy for presidents. It has nothing to do with day to day presidential duties, but you have to be able to pull it out when needed. Clinton, Obama and pals. I hated Reagan from the start so I can't rate him. I hated him more than I hated Nixon. Bush Jr was really bad. Bush Daddy just as bad maybe. But smarter.

Biden:

So, he has a cognitive test every day because he's busy running the World. And he'd only drop out if God came down and told him to.

Good grief.

Having watched the full of the interview, I've got to say that Biden was full on delusional, coming up with "achievements" that were either lies (he stopped Putain) or stuff that he had no hand, act or part in (claiming he was running the domestic policies of other countries).

I think you are ascribing more significance to all of them than is due.
They were major global players, but within a machine that has been instrumental in fighting off the predators that would destroy western values.
It is sensible to revere all of them as elected officials to defend the west, the literature, the culture, the unprecedented freedom.

Are Western Values so weak that the mightiest military in the world, the biggest economy, the most invasive surveillance apparatus and the biggest population in prison are barely enough to protect them?

If so, how do tiny European countries manage it without all that?

Biden narrows Trump’s lead in swing states after debate debacle: Survey

BY YASH ROY 07/06/24 01:19 PM ET

President Biden, in the wake of a poor debate performance and growing calls for him to step aside, has narrowed Trump’s lead in the key swing states, according to a new survey.

The Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll, published Saturday, showed Biden leading Trump in Michigan and Wisconsin. In Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina, the incumbent is now within the margin of error, per the survey.

Stunning

I thought Trump would be up 10 points by now after that debate. Biden actually improved.
