2012 Debates

Doesn't every candidate say that they're going to sit down with leaders from both parties and get them to work together? Does it ever work? I think that's why Presidents look like they age so much more than 4 or 8 years when they're in office. Day 1 of the Presidency is orientation. Day 2 is meeting with the leaders of both parties. Day 3 is "what the hell did I get myself into? There's no way these dopes can work together?" Fast forward 4 or 8 years and the President looks like he's actually aged about 20 years.

Besides the issues I had with Romney, Obama needed to garner confidence in his performance going forward. And while his stammering had nothing to do with content, it knocked some points off his confidence.

So... hard to call. If when Romney had sad "I have no plan to cut education", Obama had come back with "Yes, it doesn't seem you have much of a plan for anything", it would have been a knock-out.

If the media tomorrow picks up on the no-details-just-principles comment, the Obama pulls ahead here. If not, I think the next poll numbers will either be unchanged, or maybe an uptick for Romney.

If I was pumped before this debate, I'm ecstatic now. Obama got the spanking he's been asking for, and Mitt was almost gleeful in the delivery of said spanking. No zingers or cheap tricks, just a good old fashioned whooping.

Most people I talked to so far thought Romney's smirk was great, agreed that it displayed his "confidence and total command of the stage". So no worries there. Magic underwear was just right tonight.
 
Oh and I just simply CAN NOT take Romney's smirk. It's really really frustrating.

To be clear, I don't think it is an intentional smirk. I think he is doing a closed lipped smile in an attempt to look more stoic instead of having an outright smile that would look very unprofessional.

He just doesn't realize that he looks like a tool... or he can't do anything else with his face..... ooooorrrrrrr..... he IS just a tool.
 
How much would you pay to see, instead of a handshake at the end, one of them floor the other with a solid right cross to the jaw? Just out of nowhere.

I'm watching NBC commentary, which is saying that Romney gave plenty of details, and the debate will send Obama's team back to the drawing board.
