2012 Debates

Did Romney actually say that private insurance companies can offer insurance that is cheaper than Medicare?

I'm watching NBC commentary, which is saying that Romney gave plenty of details, and the debate will send Obama's team back to the drawing board.

Well, the PBS folks say that the candidates gave too many specifics....they haven't really mentioned the coming to the table with no plan issue...

apparently Big Bird is getting more air time in the wake of this debate.

Bill Maher: "i can't believe i'm saying this, but Obama looks like he DOES need a teleprompter"

If I was pumped before this debate, I'm ecstatic now. Obama got the spanking he's been asking for, and Mitt was almost gleeful in the delivery of said spanking. No zingers or cheap tricks, just a good old fashioned whooping.

Most people I talked to so far thought Romney's smirk was great, agreed that it displayed his "confidence and total command of the stage". So no worries there. Magic underwear was just right tonight.

Romney Derangement Syndrome?

From what I saw (I missed the first 20 minutes or so), I'd say Romney won a close decision. A whooping? Please.

And I will QFT

As I've been saying all along, at this stage, with these numbers, unless President Obama screwed up in a major, MAJOR way during this first debate, it's not going to ultimately help Romney.

And while it sounds like President Obama didn't do great, it seems that he held his own and gave pretty much as good as he got.

Sorry Romney and GOP, that won't be good enough. You're done.

EVERYONE on NBC is saying this, or just the GOP talking head?

Anyway, I think the general opinion is that Obama didn't kick any a$$ but it isn't a game changer either.

I fully admit I am an Obama supporter but I don't think Obama did "bad" but I don't think he did "great" either. He might have did much poorer than I am taking out of it but all in all I still contend that it doesn't matter at all..... the debates don't really matter all that much in the grand scheme of things.

CNN: "We didn't see any bodyslam messages from Romney tonight."

No, but I do believe we saw some flying elbows and German Suplexes.

The CNN talking heads think Romney won. I put little stock in them.

I think we'll just have to see how the polls go in the days to come. I predict that no matter what, the media will continue to push the "neck and neck horserace" meme in an attempt to get as many people tuning in as long as possible. Hey, that's how they make money.

You quite clearly weren't paying attention. Romney made several stilted, awkward attempts at the "zingers" we were promised.

"Mr. President you are entitled to your own plane, and your own house, but not your own facts."

*rimshot*

Content-wise, Romney handled himself fairly well... right up to the point he copped to not having any specifics and began contradicting himself.

He's for small business, but criticizes Obama for investing in small business (i.e. green jobs).

He's against and will repeal Obamacare, but will institute a healthcare plan that will follow that same "principles" as his plan in Massachusetts... which was the model for Obamacare.

Ed Schultz just called it for Romney. MSNBC besides themselves. Bill Maher admits defeat. CNN calling it a "big win" for Romney. Chris Matthews says Romney winning. PBS calls it for Romney. Chuck Todd concedes. Rachel Maddow making excuses for Obama. Daily Kos mysteriously silent.

I can't wait for the next 2 debates. Obama is probably trying to figure out how to cancel them.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

They only really matters when the election is relatively close, and one candidate dominates the other.

This election isn't that close, and no one got dominated in this debate (from what I can tell).

Thus, it's basically back to the status quo, and that favors President Obama.

Now it's all about the GOTV ground game, and Obama has Romney there, too.

It's deep in the night here in Europe (debate started around 3 am, I think), and I was too tired to listen to all the words spoken, and spent some time in another subforum.

So I am reactiong more to how voices sounded, the faces looked, and a few snippets of what was said.

My impression is that Romney looked and sounded better, and from the random arguments I happened to hear, he also tended to be sharper in his words. SO I call a Romney win, but nothing earth-shattering.

Evidence?

Mitt Romney had a bigger lapel pin therefore, it is obvious he loves America more. Also, what was that odd dot in the middle of the stripes?

If there were 100 points to be given out, I'd give 60 to Mitt and 40 to Obama.
